View Full Version : How do the living costs in Tenerife compare to those of the UK?
I know this is a bit of a "Piece of string" question, but how do the costs of living in Tenerife compare to the UK?
Here, for a couple, we spend about £100 a week on shopping, including three bottles of wine.
Council tax is £140 a month
Gas and electricity for a two bedroom property is around £180 a month
Water is £65 a month
Sky is £60 a month
Broadband is £30 a month
Car insurance £80 a month for a newish Mondeo
Road Tax £15 a month
Now I know we will need medical insurance. What will that cost for a comprehensive policy for a couple?
Thanks in advance
Try looking on numbeo for costs etc.
Thanks. Numbeo do some of it, but don't give the "feel". nothing about IBI or basura, or insurances

Cant help thinking you can do a lot better in the UK than what you are paying.
Shopping about right.
Council tax about right.
Gas and Electric for two bed is very very high, mine is around 100.00 a month for three bedrooms.
Water about right.
Sky about right depending on the package.
Broadband also very very high, I pay 7.50 for unlimited fibre.
Car insurance I pay 19 per month for newish Audi.
Road tax I pay 9 per month.
In Tenerife you will save money on Power bills and petrol or diesel
No Council tax, but probably community fees if you are buying, which could be about the same.
Food and shopping used to be cheaper but now around the same.
Water may be a bit cheaper.
Broadband if you can get it about the same as what you are paying.
Basically you are going to save your power bill.
Broadband includes Phone line.....
This is a two bed, but it is huge I suppose. Spend a lot on heating the pool too :ashamed:
No community fees as we are not looking at complexes.
Car insurance is high due to Mrs Liftman :dbluecar::copper::copper::copper:
I wish we didn't have to pay our council tax here in may
