TENERIFE Cabildo has given the green light to a controversial project to build a five-star hotel at La Tejita, in Granadilla de Abona.
There have been numerous anti-hotel demonstrations over the last year and recently, political group Podemos has spoken of its rejection, saying: “We are strongly in favour of maintaining the current landscape and environmental treasures of the area.”
The Cabildo maintains its report on the project shows that the plan “meets all required standards established by law for the construction of a five-star resort”.
However, there is still a long way to go before a single building block can be laid. The Canaries’ Environment Ministry, and Granadilla Council, will also compile their own, independent reports.
And recently, Granadilla Mayor Jaime González Cejas said he was not keen on the hotel plans because “we always respect the natural spaces of our region”.
