Here in Tenerife again and as usual my mobile won't work.
Been in and out of the 02 shop in the UK and they don't have a clue.
I cannot get through to any Tenerife numbers.
I have used the code 0034 and I have tried without the code and still nothing.
A recorded message comes through saying 'this number has not been assigned'!
Has anybody any ideas?
Thanks.

A simple one that's sometimes overlooked, have you had your phone enabled for overseas usage?

Thanks Carol.
Apparently I have.
According to those 'clever people' in the 02 shop at home

O2 are a bit different to anyone else, i,e you don't have to put 0044 in to ring back to UK, so I would try 922 then the number, if no go, then just try the bit after 922. Or just the 22 bit and number, if no go then try +34 922 then the number. If none of that works then you have a phone or a sim problem.

Hi, try this:-

Whenever you use your mobile phone abroad you should always use the international dialling code of the country you're calling. Just key '+', then the country code, followed by the area code (without the 0) and then the phone number.

So, dial +34 (must be + not 00) the country code for Tenerife, 822 or 922 then the number which should be six numbers, e.g.
+34 922 635 192

If this does not work, call o2 presuming you are on pay monthly you may need bars lifting on your phone. It is free to call from pay monthly contracts, and not much use calling when you are home if it is not the bars.

Thanks so much everyone.
The problem has been solved!
What I was doing was ringing 0034 then the number.
I should have been using the + !
Would have thought they would have known this when I was in and out of the 02 shop in the UK!
Simples! :spin::laugh:

Well, being as I work in an o2 call centre it wasn't that difficult! :)
