On a day trip to Santa Cruz Oh spotted the City sightseeing bus so of course like holidaymakers do....we had to give it a go....

www.city-ss.com for those who want to view the web.

The colourful bus is 10 euros per adult and less for children.
It takes 1hr 15 mins to do the whole tour if you stay on the bus but you can hop on and off at some of the 13 stops.

Getting on the bus @ the bus station - we were given a leaflet saying all the stops and a pair of orange headphones each. The headphones are plugged in next to your seat and you press the buttons to tune into your language when the music is not being piped through. Good commentary about the things we saw as we passed.
Sat half way down the top deck of this open top bus (watch out for over hanging tree's!!!)

We liked the trip and saw much more of Santa Cruz than we would have on foot but thought it was one of those trips you only do the once.

Ed this year we (a couple ) used the Titsa bus several times for day trips instead of the more costly coach trips. We bought 2x 12 euro Bona cards. The Bono cards we did not use on the City sight seeing trip though. We rented an apartment in LC and caught the local bus about 9am to Santa Cruz.

The local bus with Bono card was 4.70 euro each - each way. no returns like here in the UK.

We walked along the sea front. Then did some shopping to take home. It was 3pm when we got on the tour bus. It was a good way for tourists to see what Santa Cruz has to offer. I do not think we would have seen all the sights just walking.

Thanks Pink shoes I want to see more of the island this holiday.
How long does it take to get to SC from LC ?
Have you ever taken the bus to Masca from LC ?
Is Masca worth a look ??

It is a good way to see Santa Cruz although the city it self with it's very narrow streets and traffic makes it a very start and and stop experience and as Pink Shoes says is something that you would only do once.
We were sold tickets as we arrived at the Bus Station and told that we could catch the tour bus just outside, we waited at the stop for over half an hour and when we got on the bus it went two stops to the information centre near the port and then we were told that the bus stopped there for twenty minutes, so after an hour we did not make much progress.it appeared that only one bus was being used that day. having taken the tour bus in Barcelona and Madrid the Santa Cruz experience was disappointing.

Hi Ed and all reading...

The express 110 titsa as far as I remember takes about 1 hour along the motorway. This bus does not stop much in between.

You can catch much slower busses I believe, that take much....longer and stop at every stop.

I have not been to Masca yet but would love to. It is on my todo list. Perhaps another member can tell us what there is to see there. I have read about the big down hill walk to the sea which takes 4/5 hours and you catch a boat at the bottom.

We did the tour bus a few weeks back. I loved it, my OH not so impressed but then thatīs him.... I donīt think I could have done it all on foot. And I always enjoy being given good information. BTW when you are at that 20 min stopover you can, if you want to, go down the steps in the square to have a look at that big cannon that blew off Nelsonīs arm in the bay right there. Spanish are very proud of that battle and the cannon. Overall well worth it.
Masca is a must. Shangri-la.

Difficult to get to Masca by public transport from Los Cristianos I believe buses run from Los Gigantes and from Sanitago Del Teide, The thing about Masca is the astounding scenery, you will need stout shoes or boots if you intend to walk down to the beach. there is another thread discussing all the why's and wherefores which may answer some of your questions.

Sorry but a holiday to me is no boots or walking for hours to a beach......But we will give the bus tour a try.

Try the tram ride through Sta. Cruz to La Laguna. Last year when my sister came from Canada we did that run and I saw some back streets of the city that I hadn't seen before. La Laguna is a beautiful university town full of history. But that day we stayed on the tram and rode it all the way back to Sta. Cruz.
Over an hour round trip with air conditioning.

The last time I went, if you came from PDLA on TITSA bus with Bono then got on tram to La Laguna ,the fare was free (trasbordo)- coming back if you joined bus after tram the fare was incorporated in your fare back to PDLA on TITSA bus .
Lovely place to visit with an old shop specialising in chocolate and churros just as you enter the old Casco ( canīt remember name)

Added after 7 minutes:

Itīs a good historical city with plenty of street cafes and all types of shops ,market and also large stores ,nice parks - I would prefer to walk round than use bus - a good day out - most shops close from around 1:30- 4:30 but definitely a big contrast to PDLA !

Following on from our titsa bus trip from LC to Santa Cruz, going on the sightseeing bus around Santa Cruz.

Early evening we tried out the tram.
We went into the little office expecting to buy a ticket using our Bono card
BUT the guy did not speak English and we did not speak Spanish....
He gave us a leaflet with a map on of the stops and all writing in Spanish of course. I managed to find out what time the last tram was by various signs and showing watch. He indicated the trams run till midnight.

We jumped on the next tram and watched a man put his card in a ticket machine, so we did the same x2. It cost 1 euro each for the 35 minute ride.(each way)

I thought it was very trusting not to have a conductor taking the fare!
A bit later though the tram stops and a inspector got on and checked all the tickets.

Lovely views from the windows as we went by. Oh said he had never been on a tram before.
We got off at the end of track in La Trinidad.
Walked up and down the streets of shops.
There were lots of locals out walking and chatting to friends.
Oh had a local beer at an outside table of a bar and I had iced water.
Soon after we got the tram back down to Santa cruz then waited in the bus station for the express 110 Titsa bus back to LC.
It was just after 9pm when we arrived back, so a long day out but diffrent as it was our first time.

The leaflet has a web address on www.metrotenerife.com

Yes itīs a hefty fine if you donīt pay on Tram ! Did you go uphill and around old historica lpart of La Laguna ? You can also get a discount on Science Museum with Bono card , tram stops right outside. The trams also have free wifi !

Hi jungle jim, you seem to have had a better deal with a free tram fare on the titsa bus coming back! how did that work? did you tell the bus driver you had been on the tram? it is difficult when you get no comprendi. I think from what I remember the tram goes uphill on the way there and down hill on the way back.
I did not know anything about a science museum until you said. How much is it and is it worth a walk around?
