Canary Islands - 28.06.2011 -

The Canaries can expect somewhat cooler weather this week compared to the blistering conditions experienced in most parts last week.

Tenerife Met Office chief Victor Quintero says the relatively milder (but still summery) weather will see temperatures staying below 30ºC for the most part, although some warmer peaks may occur. The presence of sea breezes this week has considerably alleviated the conditions of a few days ago, particularly Thursday when temperatures reached a high point.

The mass of warm African air that hung over the Canaries has shifted northwards to the mainland, where several regions are now experiencing temperatures into the low 40s, with Galicia already suffering serious forest fires.
