Highway chiefs in Tenerife have listened to an appeal from a motoring association to make the island’s roads safer for motorbikes.

Concern has been expressed in recent months about road surfaces and safety barriers, particularly on the motorways. Bikers have claimed the existing barriers are death traps and wanted something done about them.

Now, the Tenerife Cabildo has heeded these calls and has implemented an ongoing programme of works to install new barriers in various locations across the island. The work started on June 13th and will cost nearly 250,000 euros.

These new protective barriers will be particularly helpful for motorists on stretches of road which are very busy and bottle-necks in busy periods.

The scheme is a commitment to the Tenerife Motorists Association which is also working on an education programme for motorbike riders.

Motorists will see that the work is being carried out on various sections of the TF-1, TF-66, TF-4 and TF-5, north and south.
