Tenerife - 30.06.2011 -

Speed limit signs on Tenerife's two motorways have to be changed late tonight, giving the Roads Department a major logistics headache and a total 60,000 euro bill for the switch back to the old limit.

As reported last week here, the Spanish government has reinstated the 120 km per hour limit, which takes effect again nearly four months after it was cut to 110 km per hour as a fuel-saving measure.

The U-turn means that Roads Dept. staff will be sent out late tonight to place new stickers on top of the current ones. A spokeswoman said that some disruption will be experienced due to lane closures to allow access to the signs.

The new batch of stickers had to be ordered from the mainland euros but have now arrived, said the spokeswoman.

In all, some 150 road signs need to be altered tonight.

I suppose the 60,000 Euro bill is for whole Spain, not just for the 150 signs on the two motorways here in Tenerife?
Or..? Actually, the amount doesn't make sense either way.

I'm not so sure. From the couple of articles I have read it appears that is the Tenerife cost

Yeah... as I added, the cost doesn't make sense either way. To low for all of Spain, to high for Tenerife. (€400 per sign is a lot, even considering the overhead!)

Edit: And with "overhead" I do NOT mean the plastic bags! :p

That works out at €400 per sign to put a sticker on. Value for money...

Edit: Ooops sorry pooh, just saw your post.

Yes, of course. The stickers themselves shouldn't cost much each, considering they had to make a lot of them for whole Spain. €10 each, maybe. €20 on the far outside. The rest i labour cost, but I don't understand how much they're paying those guys per hour...

Not just the labour cost, but transportation, policing etc. etc.

I am sure that Trafico have made 10 x more than what the signs have cost them in the fines that the lower speed limit has brought them.
