Check with your ISP

A lot of them now supply their own badged version of some of well-known security products free or for a minimal charge

I used to use AVG but it takes up a lot of memory and can slow your PC/Laptop down so i uninstalled it and now use Avast Antivirus which updates itself daily! microsoft security essentials also gets very good reviews!

Comodo internet security is free and comes with firewall which i don't think AVG does. When you install it don't bother with geek buddy feature.

Agree with you Al. I did use AVG up to a couple of weeks ago until I opened an email from a sender I had used before and my laptop was infected with a virus. The usual sales/panic stuff, "buy now or die". Took my guy hours to root it out and I now have Avast.

I recommend avast but best way to combat the new wave of viruses is to make sure windows is fully service packed with all current updates also update java, flash, adobe reader, quicktime, browser (internet explorer, firefox etc).

use malwarebytes every other week and spybot

Mark

everyone blames microsoft for security issues but alot of the time its the programs we use that have bugs that get exploited.

I use Kaspersky. You can buy it fairly cheap from www.software4students.co.uk
I also use a free version of CCleaner!

If i was to purchase a product I would use nod32 http://www.eset.co.uk/Home/NOD32-Antivirus?gclid=COzO3cCT8KkCFcVO4QodGTFMVw

Can also make a bootable rescue virus cd.

Have to agree with the reference to Nod 32. Seems to me that a lot of computer engineers use that programme.

Whatever you use you still have to be sensible. Don't click on anything iffy, especially on sites that are new to you. Beware unknown e-mails & even from people you know if they have a link in them.

Only have 1 anti-virus running at a time. Check that it's updated automatically. Use a good spyware detector.

I personally use Microsoft Security Essentials as my anti-virus, malwarebytes, spybot & CCleaner.....all free & no problems.

As most people will know it's often user error that causes problems.

ALSO MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP IMPORTANT STUFF REGULARLY.

Hi GFG, think it cost me £23 for 2 years for a 3 user licence from software4students!
Bought office 2010 last year for £35 and it's the professional edition with publisher!
