Wonder what made you think of this thread:) When I returned to the UK last year I quickly bought a Skoda Fabia. It's 8 years old now and I've put 40000 on it and it's served me well. I'm doing well under 100 miles a week now so today took it into my head to change the car (Been thinking about it for a while). I'm picking up a Toyota Aygo tomorrow lunch time. 70 odd mile to the gallon and Ģ20 a year tax. Plus I've had Toyotas before and love em:)

Had a car some 20 odd years ago which had a rate of about 5 mpg... some of it was leaking out here and there though. (US gallons, not Imperial. It was a -68 Pontiac)

Now I drive some sort of Nissan; cheapest runner I've had in many years.

Years ago I had a Skoda Rapide (convertible) white with a blue go faster strip on the sides. I hated the third to fourth gear change on it, but apart from that it was great!! I was usually always the first away at traffic lights as everyone must have thought I'd be just doddering along!!! It was a great car - moved a wardrobe (just like the grandfather clock on Antiques Roadshow, toured Scotland and we even turned up at the Dorchester Hotel with a drum kit in it. We had to put the roof down to get the bass drum out !! OH's car had broken down!! In the end we advertised in a specialist magazine and it went to a collector in Germany!!! So it may still be flying along the autobahns. :convertible:

PS - not a refuse collector either!!! I got fed up with all the 'skip' jokes!!!

I'd have lots more hols in Tenerife!!! :) As long as you can get from A to B, that's all that matters - with all the speed cameras it's not worth owning too fast a car these days, unless you go driving in Europe a great deal.

Interesting Thread this Sal.
Last Forum most were Driving 4x4 and suchlike with an odd Mercs thrown in.
Must be the recession biting.?
i bought a little Clio, new, three Years ago, after deciding to save a bob or two.
I swopped it for an Astra 1.6 which was a good car also.
When We moved into smaller Accomodation, the Clio was used to move about Half the House contents.

Dream Car is a Range Rover Diesel.

Mine is 7 years old, had it from new. Second one I've had. First one was a 2 litre petrol but as I'd driven diesels for years I found the fuel consumption a bit high especially on short journeys, so I traded it for the 1.6 diesel I've got now, never had any problems with it. Always get it serviced at a FIAT garage [emoji4]
