I was reading a book about Roger Casement and he stopped off in Tenerife before going to mainland Africa,but the author,a Scot who's name escapes me,spelt Tenerife with two F,s as above.
Can someone explain why?was that the way people used to spell it or was it just a mistake on the authors part?

germans spell it teneriffa
