Just wondering if anyone had suggestions as to where a family of 5 ( kids 11,9,3)should stay, NOT including Pdla & Los Cris ( and their suburbs). We always head for P. Santiago/Los Gigantes. Can anyone recommend other places?

Seeing as you like golf, how about Golf del Sur?

Depends what style of holiday you and the family take. For example there is El Medano, just down the road from me. Lovely long beach, an amazing array of Restaurants and bars, mostly Spanish with a smattering of English. Water sports come into their own here. 5 minutes from the Autopista so getting around should be no problem. If you need English then GDS is not far away.

After holidaying on the island for 30 odd years, we always head for del Duque in Costa Adeje.

A bit more up-market than PDLA and LC with a better class of holidaymaker.

If you ALWAYS head to the west that suggests you like the resort to be very British, and are happy with early nights (probably because of the kids). So as Vince suggests the Golf too is a little Brit enclave which may suit, maybe Costa del Silencio if you want to try something different but still in the south maybe El Medano (http://redqueenmusings.wordpress.com/2011/02/13/if-i-knew-then-what-i-know-now/), or go Spanish with La Caletillas at the edge of Candelaria (http://redqueenmusings.wordpress.com/2011/02/17/candelaria/)

The Golf may just be what you are looking for. Have a look at the duplexes on The Palms complex. It has 4 pools and a bar which serves snacks throughout the day + evening meals with nightly entertainment. There is also a good selection of restaurants within walking distance. The area has a good bus service to El Medano, Los Abrigos Los Cristianos and Las Americas should you feel the need for a bit of hustle and bustle.
Hope you find that helpful

Many thanks. Is there much for kids( or adults) in the evenings?

Thanks Zara, tbh, I don't care what the prominent nationality is of the restort. We don't go to Irish or British bars in general because we like to mix with other nationalities and cultures but would still be out until 11 or 12 o'clock. In Los Gigantes, we normally go to "Sangria" ( near the Green Corner pub ) because Rafael gets a good laugh from my pathetic attempts at Spanish! With regards to Costa del Silencio, is it as quiet as the name suggests? Finally, where is La Caletillas? I can't find it on Google Earth (or El Medano for that matter though I did find Candearia )

Is there a link or website anywhere for this complex? There doesn't seem to be any on Tripadvisor. Also, is it noisy being in close proximity to the airport?

IMO the Golf is noisy, but those who live there swear they donīt notice the planes so perhaps it is just use. Again my opinion but I donīt think there is much there for children, have a look at this website which gives information on what is available http://www.golf-del-sur.com/ donīt forget to check the Whats on section so you can see the type of acts in the bars. You will also find a list of restaurants.

El Medano, one of my favourite places is just past the airport http://tiny.cc/ab1zb

Las Caletillas http://tiny.cc/rwgrs is just of the TF1 past Candelaria

Here is an insiders view http://www.tenerife.co.uk/las-caletillas/ of what to expect as opposed to what the travel agent will tell you.

Holiday Lettings is a good site to look at properties. Yes you do get aircraft noise somedays being quieter than others. Being only 10 minutes away from the airport the Golf is in the direct flight path.

Why is it that you don't want to stay in Los Cris or PDLA Dok? Or have you stayed there before and don't like it? just being curious!

I just don't like crowds or built-up places in general. I only go through airports because thats the only place I can get a plane. I rarely, if ever, go into city centres. And before you say it, I know, I'm a sandwich short of a picnic!
Dok:)
N.B. I did stay in PdlA many years ago, but that was when I was single and could still hold my drink!

Its Golf Del Sur Dok!
