Former Adeje councillor Miguel Angel Santos has been appointed head of tourism at the Tenerife Cabildo, which has ignored opposition by influential sector representatives.
The veteran politician, who is widely credited for putting Adeje firmly on the tourism map, is seen as the ideal person to lead the island's overall tourism strategy for the next 4 years.
The personal choice of Cabildo vice-president Carlos Alonso, news of his planned appointment triggered initial dissatisfaction among certain quarters in the industry which now appears to have been overcome.
