Grandson of Sigmund and brother of Clement, the artist Lucian Freud died yesterday aged 88. He certainly made the most of his long life!
His ambition in his startling paintings was to see through to the character within the body. It is said that the Sleeping Benefits Supervisor i.e. the ample lady sleeping on the sofa, was bought by the Russian, Roman Abramovitch for £17.2 million which was the highest sum ever paid for a painting by a living artist.
He is one of my favourite painters and has left some unfinished works. Hope that there will be an exhibition soon and that Russian oligarchs and others don't hide all his works away from public view. RIP to a genius.
