:confused:there are 2 road signs in one of the parking bays in our road, declaring as from tomorrow 25/7 till 29/7...no waiting.. due to "Instalacion de Bandeja"...
any ideas folks..... Bandeja translates in English as.... "Tray"....??

thanks for that TT...its odd really cos right across the road next to the parking bay is a 5/6 metre wide zebra crossing ramp that throws the bus up every time it crosses it...maybe you are correct and they are putting a line of sleeping policemen there instead...as i said 4/5 days the notices are for...
well we shall see some time tomorrow what we are getting .......
i,m still undecided as to your translation though .....cheers

Itīs not literal, but thats what they call them. We had loads put into Callao a year or so ago, and we had the same notices.

No different to our buses being called Guagaus. Not even know in Mainland Spain, just a Canarian/South American word same as the "sleeping policemen" which, by the way, is correct

thanks for the enlightenment Timmy...i was aware of Guagua being unknown in the Spanish dictionary....
even our neighbours (one mainland Spain,one English) are both unfamiliar with the word "Bandeja".....
very educational if nothing else .....

Yes, you can use "cable trays" for "charolas".
Please note that "charolas" is used only in South-America, but not in Spain. In Spain we say "bandejas".

We hired a skip from the ayuntamiento a few years ago in lanzarote and they called it a bandeja so maybe a skip is being left to remove building rubble or something, they do need police permission to leave it which would explain the signs?! Keep us posted to let us know what it is!!
