I suppose I'm guilty of publicising this as well, but it just makes me mad when travel writers bring up this old chestnut :ashamed:

Top travel writer visits Canaries
......
On his blog he (Arndt) writes "I realize that many people have no clue where they Canary Islands are or much about them, so I figured it was time for another installment of “8 Things You Might Not Have Known.."

It's a shame that the eighth item in his list of Canarian notable facts is the "World's worst airline disaster "..........

By the way RTVC thought he was a Brit

El inglés se encuentra en Canarias visitando los lugares Patrimonio de la Humanidad, sus opiniones se han convertido en un reclamo internacional.

Too idyll to do his own research into Tenerife so regurgitates previously published facts.?

In fairness, that is how older Americans know about Tenerife ... several times in the States, when I have said where I live, I have heard - ah yes, the Pan Am disaster :(

Perhaps it's on the list out of respect in a sort of "lest we forget" kind of way. I agree that it does seem to get dragged up as the OP says but I guess there must be a lot of people that like to see it remembered. At least it wasn't number 1 on the list.

The list is HERE (http://everything-everywhere.com/2011/07/16/8-things-you-might-not-have-known-about-the-canary-islands/)

And I didn't know the founder of Sao Paulo came from Tenerife :)

I enjoyed reading both the main article and the comments. Thank you.

I think they keep dragging it up because it did happen, it happened here and no matter how much people wish it wasn´t it is still quite a big part of Canary Islands / Tenerife history, and as Doreen said, most older Americans won´t ever forget it.
