Absolutely, I 've just returned with T Cook to manchester. Booked it within a week of travel £117 return included in flight meals and 20 kg checked in baggage.

return flight was on an Airbus A330 which is usually for long haul only, but meant lots of legroom and personal TV with choice of 5 films.

Hope your flight is as good

Booked it less than a week ago Nikki.
We'd been looking at flights on skyscanners for a few weeks & they were around £300 return for the 2 of us.
Iv'e never left it this late either & i'd almost given up, then i saw Thomas Cook had half price sale, so just went ahead & booked it.

Nearly always book near the time when we are thinking of going. Holiday dates are dictated by flight prices. This doesn't always work out however because we sometimes then have difficulty getting the accommodation we like. This April we are coming by jet2 and the flights are 250 for two. We normally take Ryanair flights from prestwick and have never been more than 200 for two people. We live about 2 miles from Glasgow airport and 30 from prestwick so maybe worth the extra for convenience. Haven't used jet2 before so will see.

macdonald5
18-03-2012, 14:28
May need to rethink how we book
Over years (especially when with Globespan) I could get flights around £ 200 each but last few years find prices on the up
Used Ryanair from Edinburgh a few times after Globespan demise but when Jet2 came on from Glasgow have now used them a few times
Like them, good times, great 22 kilos luggage and comfy, friendless service
We 20 miles Edinburgh ,Glasgow 26 but Prestwick approx 40 so travel costs start to add up
Another fixed is dates of our preferred accommodation so suppose we can't win it all
Enjoy your Hols

OFT forces airlines to stop hiding credit card charges

A dozen airlines have been forced to change their pricing policy by the Office of Fair Trading.

Ryanair, Thomas Cook, Thomson, Aer Lingus, Eastern Airways, easyJet, Flybe, German Wings, Jet2, Lufthansa, BMI Baby, and Wizz Air have agreed to include debit card surcharges in the headline price.

They agreed to the change after an OFT investigation into airlines which sprung charges on customers towards the end of the booking process.

The investigation was launched following a 'super-complaint' from consumer rights magazine Which?.

Most of the airlines, including Eastern Airways, easyJet, Flybe, German Wings, Lufthansa, Thomas Cook, Thomson (TUI) and Wizz Air, have already made changes to their pricing.

The rest have got until August 1 to comply with regards to advertising and fully complete further changes over the coming months.

OFT chief executive Clive Maxwell said:
"This is a great outcome for the millions of people who buy flights online.

"It is important that the cost presented when they search for a flight is realistic and that they are not surprised by extra charges. Otherwise it is harder for them to shop around for the best deal.

"We made it clear from the start that we would use all of our enforcement powers, including court action if necessary, but are pleased to have reached agreement with the airlines before court proceedings were required."

Following OFT recommendations last year, the Government has announced plans to bring forward legislation to ban excessive debit and credit card surcharges across the economy.

The OFT estimates that debit and credit card surcharging in the airlines sector cost consumers £300 million a year.

Can't really see the benefits other than slightly more transparency.

What should be challenged is Ryan Air Charging £6 or £9 per person for one Debit Card purchase which costs them maximum 18p (I am in the finance business by the way)

May 2013 with Jet 2 Glasgow Tenerife £582 (for 2) with good day flight times
BUT got email yesterday that return flight changed to 9pm (was 2pm)

Checked other options ( Ryanair not out yet) and all similar times or more expensive so looks like we have to accept

Well what with the lack of decent apartments and flights showing in excess of £500, it looks like we will not be coming to Tenerife this August for the first time in 10 years.
Ok, would have been a bit cheaper had we booked earlier, but not much (flights were nearly £400 from the turn of the year and we normally pay around £250) and the lack of apartments has been an issue for months
Very Sad, but all of the government's own doing imo (illegal letting laws etc)

We changed our timeshare weeks away from the school hols after retirement and have the cheapest flights we have ever had at £225 each return from Edinburgh with Easy Jet, good flight times and bags included. We have generally paid between £280 and £300 in school hols. I did expect it to be cheaper than that but by the looks of things flights are much more expensive this year.

How about £296 for two returns 12th to 19th September, East Mids!

When we go out in either Feb or August 2013 (tied to school hols!) we will definatly look at using the smaller airports because even if we have a long drive to get to the airport it looks like it will still work out cheaper.

Booked about a month ago for flights from Leeds/Brad 22 Feb to 22/Mar 2013 with Jet2, total cost £665.32 for the 2 of us breakdown as follows: Outbound £199.98, Inbound £197.98, Bags 22 Kg x 2 £81.96, Check in fee £40, Seats £27.96, Insurance £72, Payment card fee £23.12 & last but by no means least a booking fee £22.32.
However, my November 2012 flights for the same were £200 less in total using some of the points you can earn when flying with Jet2 when you are lucky enough to co-inside with the "Points redeemable" seats that are allocated on SOME of their flights.:hello:

Good question Bob me and the wife asked the same thing when we flew with them earlier this year could not think of a reason why you would do that unless you don't want to board with the riff raff

We were the same at Easter, doesn't make sense does it, especially as the only way you can get it now is to pay £149 to join EasyJet Plus and you still only have the choice of the seats which haven't been pre-allocated to people who have booked in on-line.

Speedy boarding is a little bit of a hangover term from unallocated seating days.

As part of booking certain premium priced seats your get the old benefits from speedy boarding

- dedicated checkin/bagdrop at certain airports (manchester for one) - this was useful the last time as the standard queue was a mile long and unusually we hecked in a case so needed to use the bag drop.
- at Manchester you can use the express lane at the security area to bypass queues.
- first on the plane to get your case stowed rather than having to hunt for overhead space and now you are guaranteed to keep you hand luggage with you when others may have to have them placed in the hold.

So you no longer pay for speedy boarding as in the past, some like to have these little extras in addition to be able to pre-book maybe overwing seating that give you more legroom.

Others are happy to pay from £3 for a prebooked seat, earlier in the year on another flight (to Spain) we didn't prepay for a seat and were happy to take the one allocated when we checked in online.

We used to take Speedy Boarding but thought it a bit of a waste of money, as half the time we were all mixed up with the rest of the passengers on the bus.

We book online and with just hand luggage we just go straight through in the nick of time.

delderek
20-05-2013, 18:57
Because if you book in the first six rows you get speedy boarding free. And can get your hand luggage above where you sit. Rather than the other end of the plane. Or put in the hold..which is now becoming a common occurance. See another thread on tiny new baggage sizes.

As Delderek says, I also read somewhere that Easyjet are not 'Guaranteeing' people with hand luggage above a certain size will be allowed to take their bag onboard as a right anymore. i.e if there is considered to be not enough space and too many have hand luggage they will make you put it in the hold.

Think you'll find that they guarantee your on board luggage if its the recommended size even if you have to place the baggage under you seat in front. They are going to allow slightly larger sizes and this is the luggage that you may have to place in the hold.
But it raises the question, How will they know until you board.
I can see problems.

tfs1
21-05-2013, 20:25
... but if you pay for a 'premium seat', which includes the old speedy boarding benefits you will be allowed to take on-board and keep in the overhead locker the previously advised hand luggage size of 56x45x25.

The second 'new' size of 50x40x20 can be kept in the plane even if the flight is full for those who haven't paid for the £8/£12 seating and some of these customers who have a case of 56x45x25 may be asked for the case to be placed in the hold if there is no overhead space.

Seems to be a sledgehammer to crack a nut - or maybe they are moving towards 2 tier hand luggage sizes and extra payments for those wishing to take onboard what is currently and has always been the 56x45x25 size.

I find them all much a much now with "hidden charges" but what I find with Jet 2 from Scotland anyway is that their starting off price is much more expensive. Start a booking with them and they will jump out at you as you go thru booking.

Yes Mrs Mac here has always favoured Jet2 , during 2015 we paid £2494 ( 3 visits Glasgow/ Tenerife for 2 incl extra leg room and luggage ) that's why I'm NO rich !!
Prices are much higher than Ryanair, Norwegian Air and Easy Jet but Jet2 are first out with flight schedules and if you have little flexibility with holiday dates or apartment availability it's easy to jump in despite price
Extras eg extra legroom for 2 is approx £100 same with luggage ,high starting price plus £200 ....expensive jollies
I'm also sore at Jet2 because they won't let me change my Glasgow booked flights to Edinburgh ( even willing to forego the lower price) Even the CEO said 'they had no system to change' when I contacted him
So this Mrs Mac no happy EX loyal customer of Jet2 !!

Its always difficult to know whats the best to do, pretty much all the flights i have booked until April next year have now been reduced. Thats Ryanair and Monach.

It has even happened to some train tickets I booked into Manchester Airport for our next flight in a few weeks - booked them 12 weeks in advance and they then came down in price !

We need a return flight (looking at Ryanair) from mainland Spain back to Tenerife for early December.

I've just been on Ryanair website and looked at my return flight for this month which I booked on 23/10/15 and the price if booked today had gone up by £155. For some unknown reason (to me) Ryanair released their flights almost a year in advance and this year about nine months in advance. :dontknow:

Ecky, I think I look too often and get disappointed with what I see. Last year I booked a flight from Spain to Tenerife at €60 and the next week it went down to €30.

Yes think best option is if flights are acceptable price , take it and forget it !!

I'm now not going to look again, in case my flight is reduced by £70 and that would mean that I would be forced to take Carol as well. :D

I'm with you there Mac. Never check the price after I book. Might just get an unpleasant surprise.
