I'm originally from the Vale of Evesham, although I've lived in Oldham for the past 37 years. I don't get back much these days but when I did it's this time of the year that you really notice the difference in the weather between the two areas. Spring down there, still Winter up here.

I suppose it's much the same in Cheshyre, especially the posh bits.

Here in Ayrshire it's another lovely sunny day, I just looked out the window to view the sea and the hills beyond, but what I did see was black smoke from the Clydeport terminal and a large ship being moved away from a raging fire.

Thanks Martin, there are now about five or six fire engines at the port, probably more on their way, I would think that they will bring a tug with fire control equipment from Greenock to assist.

Lovely morning here, I've just hung some washing out.

Maureen not so good, they've moved her to the High Dependancy Unit to treat a serious chest infection and to try and raise her blood pressure. This of course is preventing her having the gall bladder op.

Sorry to hear that. Hope things improve quickly for her. All the best

The fire has spread further along the terminal...there is a conveyer belt that takes thousands of tons of coal to another terminal about a mile away and it's like a wind tunnel, if the fire keeps spreading it will cost a fortune to repair.
More fire engines arriving now.

On a lighter note, there will be no shortage of water to put the fire out!:D

How long did it take for the fire to go out Ecks ?

It was burning for about six hours until a couple of fire control tugs arrived and they soon had it under control....
I'm not knocking the Fire Brigade as they did a Stirling job keeping the fire restricted to a certain area, but their ten tenders looked like "little boys peeing" compared to the tugs capability.

This morning it looks quite sad with thousands of tons of twisted metal.

I'm not sure what will happen in the future with the coal boats as Hunterston is Britain's deepest natural port and the large ships like the the bulk coal carriers from Eastern European countries need the depth and sea area needed to manoeuvre and it will take months to repair the terminal.

.,,,,Well Done Maggie Thatcher in closing our coal mines!!

Lovely and sunny in Essex. People on the beach yesterday. Bit of a brisk wind but not too bad. We sat on the seafront and ate seafood. We had whelks, cockles, shrimps and winkles, can't get them in Tenerife.
Had to fight off a couple of seagulls though.
