I hope you get an answer to this, I would also like to know. My daughter has an iPad and it would be handy to be able to have one on standby when she comes over to Tenerife..
Ditto - interested to know ... what sort of minimum contract etc :)

or a sharp knife! You can find lots of clips explaining how on youtube, here is an example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zDjraWrDWM
Well I didn't get any information before I came to Tenerife but have since
discovered, as per Longtallalice's answer that yes, you can get one from
Vodaphone. We went to the one at Las Chafiras but they didn't have any
microsims in stock so we went up to Valle San Lorenzo and got one in the
Vodaphone shop there. We took a 3 day one at 10.63 euros. It took a little
while to do the paperwork but next time all I have to do is top up the same
sim

Make sure there is not a time limit as a lot of Spanish sims, used by visitors, are cancelled if not used or topped up in any 3/6 month period.
