Tenerife urged to get its act together in terms of parity of prices

According to the Circle of Industrialists of the South of Tenerife (CEST), one of the main complaints from tourists is to do with the relation of quality to price.

Its president Pedro Suárez has suggested a campaign to make businesses aware of this and to present a more uniform price structure as opposed to the differentials found at present. He stresses the need to continue to upgrade hotel facilities and tourist spaces.

Sr. Suárez said tourists found it quite expensive to come to Tenerife and there was definitely a disparity of prices between establishments which had to be addressed. He wasn´t advocating giving things away, just at an acceptable cost which fitted the service etc given.

Talking to a Spanish newspaper, he advocated continued talks with the airlines over costs because of the great importance of tourism to the Canary Islands and the contribution it made to the airline industry.

The CEST president also said the Canary Islands had to be better presented to as many towns on the mainland of Spain as possible to create growth in this area. They need to know that the archipelago had seven different islands to offer plus a perfect climate.

He also supported as much publicity in Europe as possible and promotion of cruise tourism. However, he backed calls for the capital to be made as attractive as possible to cruise passengers who might spend 24 hours there and it needed to be “something extraordinary” like an enviable postcard.
