It depends whether you want a basic static web-site or a dynamic one that can be updated yourself. Prices range from a few hundred euros upwards depending on the work involved. Hope this helps.

look at mine below, www.atlantico-silencio.co.uk is £4.99 a month, www.caerphillyforum.co.uk is free, www.caerphillyparcels.co.uk is free after paying £20 for lifetime hosting, www.caerphilly-parcel-shop.co.uk is £4.99 . . . . . there are lots of basic cheap or even free website hosting companies out there, it just depends upon what you want from it. You'll notice that mine even has a shopping cart. they're not great websites, but good enough for my needs. If a website takes off and starts earning good money, then you can get the professionals in at hundreds-thousands of £'s

Try webs.com. Easy to start a site - free if you don't mind some restrictions. Even paying for a custom site not expensive, though you have to. again, accept some limitations

I own a VBulletin site which runs the same software as the Tenerife forum Vbulletin 4.1.3 (Most powerful community based software out there),Costs roughly £200 for the basic license, also you need a good website host, once the license is paid for though it is free for life but hosting costs are very important ,also upgrades can be expensive but if you have the know how you can do the upgrades yourself

Thanks Atlantico - I will have a look now, although my internet's been playing up lately anyway - I only have a dongle and it keeps cutting out - getting to be a real pain!
As you say I only need a basic one to start with so I'm sure this will be fine - just want to see how things pan out before I jump in for real!

a lot of the paid for ones will offer a 30 day trial, the website I use, 1&1 Internet (http://mybusiness.1and1.co.uk/xml/order/doityourselfhomepage;jsessionid=7B3B6B885E6C9A41F8 FB8CF03AE8B53A.TCpfix223b?__frame=_top&__lf=Static&__rd=ac170c22DIZ556GzpGcbkHgxnAVK7W2t&origin[site]=PU.WH.UK&origin[page]=Home&ucuoId=PUlead%3Adefault.WH.UK-20110802184523-5AFD8B356B06D8563D1909F2FB3EE565.TCpfix154a) does this, then its £4.99 a month. What sort of thing you been thinking of doing ?

If you want a website for your business pay the going rate for a professional one don't get a DIY one - the extra money is well worth it.

What sort of thing you been thinking of doing ?1&1 are really BAD. I speak from references from clients. If you are choosing a host, pick a reliable one. Start a thread about recommended hosting companies. :)

If you want a website for your business pay the going rate for a professional one don't get a DIY one - the extra money is well worth it.This... is good advice. Also get your own domain and a proper domain based email address. I wil not consider ANY business that has a free email, such as hotmail or gmail... EVER. I simply close the page. Free email & crap site = Fly-by-night company.

Thanks AJ , I must point out that my paloma beach website is pretty much all me but the infinitely better tenerife property video blog website was of my brothers doing and he is a professional web developer - I am merely an amateur!!

Agree with admin, I laugh when I see @hotmail email addresses and I can spot a free or cheap site a mile away and they smell very very bad!!

I've used 1&1 for 6 years with 7 websites and not a single problem,so what is this BAD that you refer to ? No, the websites aren't very professional looking, but as a web based advertisement etc they do the job. They can be made to look a lot better than mine do, with the right knowledge. The OP was asking for FREE or even just CHEAP website providers just to make a start - so why tell them to go to an expensive professional site builder ? What I do, which is what I'd recommend to new starters to websites, is play around with a free/cheap provider, find out what you really want from a site, make sure it can work for your business and is economically viable, and THEN pay for a pro website to be built. Its understandable that certain professions will require certain professionally built websites (real estate, retail etc) but a mobile nail technician or car valeter will NOT. You'll notice that my websites i linked to as examples are basically just ADVERTS, or a part-time hobby, promoting my apartment or one of my businesses. My real 'professional' websites I didn't bother linking to, as my latest one cost me £2k to build and £3k a year for third party software (parcel delivery software), and that's not what the OP asked for.

If you want a website you need one of two things:
A lot of time or A lot of money. If you have neither of these then your website will be pants.

If you have a lot of money, shop around, find a web designer, ask for examples of their work, call their customers and then have them do one for you when you have found someone good.
If you have time, learn how to build one yourself. There is lots of free software. Pay for your own hosting (less than 10€ per month) and register your own domain name ($10 per year) and build your own site using whatever free software works for you. It is not difficult to get a basic site up and running that you have full control over. If your site is for a professional business but you cant afford to pay someone then I would suggest setting up your own first and then hiring someone later when you do have funds.
The ones I see with banner ads all over I think are horrible, cheap looking and I too would refrain from contacting any company using one of these.

Cant edit posts on the forum properly, no option to "save edit" only submit reply which means the post is duplicated.
How annoying!

Agree about the non-ability to Save edits. Often I pick up basic typos and also have some thoughs stream after posting. Truly annoying and a serious limitation to posting in first place.

Thanks for sharing problem.
There is different cost on website. It depend upon the qualities and other function of websites.

Hi, I am a web designer on the Island, cost totally depends on what you want your website to do, and how interactive you want it to be!! I can always come and give you a free 2 hour consultation if you want, then quote you a price based on what your looking for, a basic standard website designed by me including all graphics, branding etc can range from 400/500 euros, and that could go right up to about 2000 as I said depending on what you want it to do for you!! Hope that helps, and contact me if your interested in that consultation!! ;-)

What do you mean by my own domain and proper domain address - I'm lost already!

I'm sure you're right but I'm totally lost already! I guess this is what I need the advice for. I also guess that once you've done it you'll know more about the subject and be able to avoid pitfalls in the future. It's just about getting the right advice to start with.

own email would be yourname@yourbusiness.com rather than yourbusiness@gmail.com, yourbusiness@btinternet.com

and own domain would be www.yourbusiness.com rather than www.freewebpages.com/yourbusiness.html
