Just before leaving for the UK a few months ago the built in oven blew the trip on the electric box whenever it was switched on to stand by.

A local electrician diagnosed the problem to the failure of the grill element within the oven.

Owing to the difficulty of getting a new element I have decided to replace the oven and the separate hob unit.

I would like to use the collective wisdom of the forum as to where is the best place to buy electrical goods such as this.?

Cris-Abora, a/k/a Electro-Cris, in Los Cristianos. You can park at Mercadona if you can't find anyplace else. Hobs etc. are downstairs. We bought a Bosch a few months back and have been very happy with it.

It might be worth seeing if you can get another grill element. RE.EL.CA which is opposite the bus station in Los Cristianos, (next to restaurant La Gomera) do lots of replacement parts for ovens and washing machines etc.

There are several places in the North one in La Vera also another in Oratava and Sainta Ursula can get you names if interested. I had to buy a new built in microwave and was very pleased with the shop in Oratava.

I am in the North and the electrician took me to a specialist shop in Oratava who said the element was obsolete, the oven must be about 30 years old. I will check the supplier for spare parts in Los Christianos when I come out again in a few weeks time. But at thirty years old I think a new oven would be best.

Meanwhile all leads or some recommendations as to makes, models and keen prices for new built in type ovens and hobs would be greatly appreciated.

We have used Electrocris in El Camison and also had very good service from Martinez in Adeje, either can supply what you need.

A friend of mine purchased a Tegran ceramic hob last year very pleaased with it. It looks similar to one I paid 450 Euros for and she paid about 200 Euros I believe they do ovens as well so worth investigating.

Masters in Las Chafiras next to Bingo do end of line hobs and ovens at good prices .

I recently replaced my UK element from on line supplier for about 30 quid .

Well, I am in love with my AEG oven, model B3781-5. The hob is a new one by Bosch, PCP615B90E. I asked what kind of discount they could do, and the manager came back with 3%, so the oven was 451€ and the hob 328€. The hob is gas, by the way, so that we are not dependent on electricity during the odd occasional power outage.
