Morning mm. Weather can be a bit hit and miss, usually more cloud than the summer months, very little rain but when it does it lasts for a few days which is not very nice if you've only gone for a week. It's always warm though the nights can be a little chilly, which makes for better sleeping conditions.
All in all, in January I have had four weeks of sunshine some years, and other times approx two weeks of sun, and cloud, plus the calima's every now and again. There is usually a lot of snow on Teide in January, the local papers usually have some picts of the snow plough clearing the snow and children sledging.
It can be quite different in the north of the island though, they don't get the sun the same as the south.

Ahhhh, she doesn't know she has dementia, but everyone else does. My Mum had to go in a nursing home, she had Alzheimer's. It was awful to watch as she mentally wasted away, she used to be a nurse in her younger days.
Very sad times, I used to come home from visiting her and felt such despair, it depressed me for the rest of the day.

My wife feels exactly the same when she visits her mum. It's strange that she always wants to go but doesn't go as often as I thought she would. Probably for the same reason as yourself. "Life means nowt if you don't know what it's about". (just made that up)

To say you just made it up it's very apt. It's like having an alcoholic in the family, they're oblivious, it's the rest of the family that suffers.
I've got a copy of a poem that was on the entrance wall where my Mum stayed, you and your wife might have seen it before, but I'll put it on later when I'm on my laptop instead of IPad.

I'm going to a funeral on Friday of a 38 year old alcoholic. It's my best mate's nephew. It is an illness that thankfully most of us don't understand. He has been ill with it for years and has been in a coma at one time. Split up from his wife and 2 kids. Moved back in with his parents, but that was becoming too big a strain on the parents. Moved to his own rented flat with daily visits/contact from his parents. Found dead by his mother. Tragic. I didn't know him personally but everyone who did said he was a really nice guy and good at his trade etc. What a waste.

You don't have to tell me about it, know it all too well. Lost my fifty year old sister to it three years ago, Mum had a few years as one until dementia and Alzheimer's kicked in, and my youngest brother has just had his pancreas removed and still drinking........
Why :dontknow: All had/have something to live for, good jobs, loving families. I can't accept the fact that it's classed as an illness.

This will be her second. Still not fully aware of the whole thing, but she can say "Santa". We have a dancing santa that plays music and Isla dances along with it. It certainly was different then. We did take girls up to our bedrooms to play records !! (and vice-versa). But nowadays they want them to stay overnight !! We never allowed any of our kids to have boyfriends/girlfriends stay over in same room. My nephew (19) has been allowed to have girls share his room/bed since he was 16 .... Not on my watch !!

I'm no prude but I just didn't/don't agree with it. I always liked to know who my kids were hanging about with so they were always encouraged to bring their friends to the house but were also encouraged to go back home .. :)

My parents weren't strict, but they encouraged me to bring any friends home so they could see who I was associating with. Only girl friends were allowed to stop over, especially when we were about fifteen and been to the cinema to see X rated films, like Dracula and Frankenstein. Then we'd be frightened to death going home as we all lived in terrace houses and had dark entries to go down. They allowed my boyfriend to stay over on Saturday nights after we'd got engaged, I was nineteen, and married a week after my 21st birthday, my fella was 24.
