How do I apply for an NIE number in Tenerife?

Hi there

I was wondering if anyone can help me, I've seen lots of posts on here about NIE and Residencia
I am trying to apply for just an NIE number, can anyone help me with the form I need, is it EX-16 or EX-14, or do I have to get a residencia to get an NIE?

Also, does anyone know how long it takes for an NIE? I see that you can get a residencia on the same day.

I did mine a few months ago, I wanted both so dont know about if you can still get your NIE without the residentia....I think they both come hand in hand. I got both of mine at the same time at the police station on the 'green paper' same day I applied, you just have to wait and see the police man and he prints it there and then.

The NIE is normally ready for collection 3 days later but i was there last week and got it on the same day. Progress!!!!!

If you get a residencia, you automatically get an NIE number

You should use the EX 14 form to get a white NIE certificate (issued immediately in the south but not in the north) if you are not intending to stay longer than 90 days, the number stays with you for life but the white certificate has a shelf life of 3 months (ie 90 days)

Is the process for obtaining an NIE number the same for Russians? Or do they require anything additional?

Russians are not Europeans they need to prove the reason for the NIE application - ie buying property, student visa application etc etc etc.
