I have just moved to Tenerife and have 2 children 12 and 13 i want the 12 year old to go to a spanish school i have been told that martin luther king is a good one but i have no idea if this is private or not. I live in parque de la reina just 10 minutes from the airport and have no idea where to go to get help with this matter. My 13yr old is autistic and while we were still in england we were told there was an autistic center in tenerife but we cant seem to find any information on it. I would be grateful if anyone can give me some help with these matters. Thanks

The English speaking private schools are listed here (http://www.tenerifeforum.org/tenerife-forum/showthread.php?239-British-Schools-in-Tenerife-Contact-Details)

Here is the website for Luther King (http://www.lutherking.com/)

and for the Colegio Costa Adeje (http://www.colegiocostaadeje.com/ENG/historia.html)

I am teaching an autistic child aged 10, at the Sandbrook English centre at Tejina, because there was no other suitable class for him in particular. We have children from Parque de la Reina in the family group already. It is not a centre for special children, but a place where each child is given individualised lessons within the group.

The oldest child is 13 and the youngest is just 4. We follow the UK National Curriculum guidelines and each child is assessed to see where they are in English and Maths and then are guided to progress through the levels at their own pace. The assessment and reporting system was implemented in January this year, and we are encouraged by the progress already shown.

The group is 11 strong at present - (total planned intake 20 max), having moved to our new site in April, with 2 qualified staff. We have a visiting PE specialist with excellent qualifications who visits the school twice a week, and we teach a topic based curriculum to include all aspects of learning – geography, history, science and music - whilst focussing on giving the children the tools they need in English & Maths. There are also classes in basic Spanish as well as computer skills. There will be an open day in September when final refurbishments are finished over the holidays, for prospective parents to visit the new school.

The new site is in a mountain side village and offers fresh air, beautiful views and a wonderfully rich environment for further studies. School lunches are cooked on the premises and we are hoping to take over a plot in the gardens to grow our own vegetables, with a space for the children to have their own garden as well.

For more details contact the school 922 857478 between 8.30 – 3.30 weekdays until the end of term 29th June or PM me for mobile numbers.
