View Full Version : Tenerife Island Booming For British Travellers

admin

Recent data shows that Tenerife holidays have been particularly popular in 2011; Travelmatch.co.uk says this owes to the island's great weather and lovely hotels -

According to Travelmatch, a new travel discovery engine, holidays to Tenerife have been very popular in 2011. Many of the company's customers have booked all inclusive packages to the island to get some time in the sun.

Data from Aena, the world's leading airport operator in terms of passenger numbers, shows that Tenerife saw a 25 per cent spike in visitor numbers in the first half of 2011. The neighbouring islands of Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote also fared well during this timeframe. Travelmatch says that these numbers demonstrate that Tenerife is fast becoming one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world.

travelmatch.co.uk attributes the island's popularity to its superb weather and its array of excellent hotels. Places like the Vulcano Hotel in Tenerife allow Brits to relax in comfort and style without spending a lot of money.

Alex Francis of travelmatch.co.uk comments: "Tenerife has long been a firm favourite with British travellers, yet 2011 has been an extraordinarily strong year. The 25 per cent growth reported by Aena is very significant and matches our own figures. We expect this trend to persist as 2012 Tenerife holidays are already starting to sell as people plan their winter trips to this gorgeous island."

Francis continues: "Holidays to paradise islands have always been popular with British tourists. Given Tenerife's weather, amazing hotels and its array of excellent package holidays, it is no surprise that many choose to spend their time abroad here. There is no better way to spend your precious time off than by relaxing in a Canary Islands paradise like the Vulcano Hotel in Tenerife."

About Travelmatch:
Travelmatch is a new travel discovery engine that helps inspire customers by matching their requirements to a wide range of holidays, hotels, flights, cruises, villas or city breaks. Unlike other travel sites, customers are not required to choose a destination, date or budget before they can begin searching. Customers are able to make informed decisions by exploring photos, user reviews, maps, events and activities and other fun things relevant to their chosen travel product. Travelmatch, which closed its first funding round in 2010, is based in Notting Hill, London

Well rather reading some peoples views on how things are here it's nice to read some very positive facts.

But are these views factual or are they just another sales pitch, its just like a greengrocer who sells tomatoes, he will never shout "Rotten tomatoes for sale" he shouts what we want to hear.
I would like to be more positive, but at the end of the day "TravelMatch" do rely on the holiday companies and airlines for their income.;)

Hi Ecky i can only give the facts from my own point of view i guess and a few friends i know here who are in business and things are a lot better than they have been over the last two years.

In fact if any other forum members who are also in business here could share their views on how things are for them right now then this could be helpful.

Think you need to just regard it as another sales pitch Ecky.

After all, what does this tell you ?

"Mediterranean holidays are ideal for British holiday makers. Chances are you’ll enjoy gorgeous weather and have the opportunity to revel in the sun, sand, and sea at any time of the year. You’ll have all kinds of island options ranging from Balearic Islands holidays and Canary Islands holidays to Greek Islands holidays." :crylaughing:

I'm not disputing that Tenerife is on the up, as most visitors and business owners will confirm that, but what gives you confidence that a search engine company will give you honest advice or figures, because in my dealings with them they only push or sell what is beneficial to them.

Oh, I wish there was a cynical smiley.;)

Actually, now you say that... I was walking through Los Cristianos last week with the OH and his brother and I was amazed how busy it was. I have been down there several times a year over the past few years and I noticed a significant increase in footfall. Also, Playa San Juan was very busy last night.... and the beach was packed at 5.30pm when we arrived.

1) I didn't assume everyone is on AI - the O/P stated this:- "According to Travelmatch, a new travel discovery engine, holidays to Tenerife have been very popular in 2011. Many of the company's customers have booked all inclusive packages to the island to get some time in the sun."

2) Thank you, yes we do enjoy eating, drinking and shopping in del Duque - it's lovely.

3) Regarding what we pay for our friend's villa - that's not really any of your business, is it ?

It's a shame to have to stoop to that level again where you are picking on someones business when their business has nothing whatsoever to do with the subject of the thread.

What are you looking for this year? A cheap studio in Mareverde? Maybe ask TonyPub, he can probably put yopu in touch with someone and you can get one for 150€ a week - might be more in your budget - just trying to help :bootyshake:

Obviously this company want to get on the map so they quote a reliable source and promote the islands around this positive info, it doesn't make the facts from AENA incorrect.

We are running at around 20-25 % up on last year as a whole and incredibly we're 125% up on last August!!!

Sadly, some people fail to realise just who the REAL spenders are on the Island.

From my angle, it's certainly NOT the Europint and €2.50 fry up brigade.

I walk the dog up the coast every night, and it is so much busier than the last couple of years. The Patch is heaving, i give Veronicas a body swerve but i imagine its busy, All the restaurants to and beyond the Casino are full or nearly full. The bars in Porto Colon and San Eugenio are busy, on the shoreline, the street where the La Pinta is and the top road. In fact last week The Rumpot on Monday had such an overspill on to the pavement i had to go on the road to get past. Fanabe, packed out. It actually only gets quiet when you round the corner to Del Dulque, the restaurants have people in them but the shops are dead (not surprised at the prices they charge). I imagine the businesses there dont have to be busy to make a good living considering the mark up on prices. I walk about 8.30 ish and as i head up to del Duque all the walking traffic seem to be heading Fanabe direction, so seems to me most of the holiday makers staying there go and enjoy the same entertainment as the rest of us great unwashed. x

Its very pretty there, and the restaurants are nice, but i can understand why people come down into the busier areas, people on holiday want a bit of variety. However, i dont believe staying there makes you any better or more prestigious than any one else. We had a customer who was in the scrap metal business, swore like a trooper and told really dirty jokes (very loudly). She lives up there, I also knows a guy that is a shareholder in a premier football club, and he stays nearer town. Each to their own.

Yes 9PLUS - you're spot on. ;)

Having stayed in many different places over the last 30 odd years, we find that del Duque suits us perfectly for our holidays in Tenerife.

It's clean, quiet, drug and drunk free, no punch ups, no LLmen and very pleasant, well mannered people with similar tastes to ours.

As caroletenerife says in the previous post - "each to their own".
