Hi Linda, it's some place eh? I've never been in it though, a bit too pricey for my wee pockets. But the Trossachs scenery is fantastic. If you ever go up to the pier at Loch Katrine, here's a wee tip for you. You can drive round the private road that goes up the right hand side of the loch and come out again at Stronachlachar. If the barriers are down, key in 1877 and they will lift for you. Take your time driving though as there are lots of people cycling and walking the narrow road.

Thanks HM - we've never driven around the loch only taken our bikes, we've taken the SS Walter Scott down and cycled back. The Holiday Property Bond is something we invested in about 20 years ago but unfortunately it doesn't have any properties in Tenerife only La Gomera. This is the link to Property Bond http://www.hpb.co.uk/ (well I hope it works - am not as good as you at this sort of thing HM) they have pics of the inside of Tigh Mor if you're interested in a wee look.

Been for a visit HM but haven't actually been on the barges, but could sit all day and watch it! Did you and Tizzy go on? We took our bikes last summer and peddled (until we were knackered) for a bit up the canal tow path. As you say, well worth a visit, especially on a braw day!!!!

Sorry I hadn't replied Linda, me and Tizzy have been on the Isle of Arran for a 3 day break. We were promised Wifi access but our room was too far from the router! I'm not complaining though as we were upgraded to a family room. Here's a wee film I've just uploaded to Youtube. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFYWlGKydZE) We had a great time!

The "Tall Ships" are due in Greenock today but for the last 2 days some of them have been moored round some of the Arran ports. Awesome sight! One of them ran aground in Lamlash bay and had to wait for high tide to get clear again! No damage done though.:)

Davie how are you today bad bad result yesterday:spin:

Partick Thistle were held by Culter in the Scottish Cup Pic: © SNS Group

North Superleague outfit Culter produced a spirited performance to claim a 1-1 draw against Partick in the third round of the Active Nation Scottish Cup.

The Division One side got off to the perfect start when Paul Cairney collected Thomas Stewart's pass to fire home from 20 yards.

But Gary Thow and Andy Gibson's side were not overawed and pulled level with 19 minutes gone as Ryan Stott found space inside the visitors' penalty area and found the bottom corner.

Partick ought to have regained their advantage shortly before the hour but Kris Doolan put Aaron Sinclair's cross over the crossbar with the goal at his mercy.

The visitors increased the pressure in the closing stages but, with Scott Robertson heading a corner over and Cairney thwarted by Culter goalkeeper John Farquhar, they could not find a way through.

Sorry JJ no Bridies in Arbroath but VERY good pies from "Pie Bobs" or it will have to be smokies. Peterhead and Arbroath are surley the windiest / coldest places in Scotland to watch football right next to the North Sea.

You will find that the train operates from York on the East Coast line and sometimes you have to change at Edinburgh onto Glasgow or if you are lucky it may be a direct train to Glasgow via Edinburgh and then change train at Glasgow on to Ayr.

If I am right, the only Glendronach that I know of is a famous whisky distillery, so if you were born there you will have a taste for the Amber Nectar;), it is situated halfway between Dufftown and Peterhead, which is on the north east coast of Scotland.:)

If you go to www.scotshistoryonline.co.uk/huntly you will find some old photographs of Huntly, which is a nice town in the heart of Aberdeenshire.

Drove up here today, fantastic!...
Took this video today in Wester Ross. This road is known in Gaelic as the Bealach na Ba or Pass of the cattle. It was an old drovers road used as a short cut to get cattle from the remote Applecross peninsula to the Cattle tryst in crieff about 150 years ago. It climbs from sea level at Loch Kishorn to about 1300 feet in the space of about 3 miles with some hair raising hairpin bends! I had to walk about 3/4 mile from the car park at the top back down to the bends, then climbed the side of the hill for the best vantage point. It was bloody freezing up there! The sound you hear is the wind...

Junglejim Bridies ordered will see you 19th in Irish Rover :tiphat::scotland:

A Forfar Bridie is a horseshoe-shaped meat product. It has a shortcrust cover and the filling consists of beef, onions and seasoning.
They originated in the early part of the 19th century. One story of their origin is that they were made for wedding meals (the Brides' meal) hence the horseshoe shape (for luck).
Another story is that they were made by Margaret Bridie from Glamis, who sold them at the Buttermarket in Forfar.
James McLaren and Son have been making Forfar Bridies since 1893 and the present owner, Mrs Karen Murray, is the great, great granddaughter of the firm's founder James McLaren and the 5th generation of the family to run the business

A better description of a bridie below in broad Teuchtar

The classic description, often quoted by Alan Reid the local historian, was given by Jeems Stark, a one-time local character and frequenter of bakehouses.
According ti James, a bridie was "juist a brodie - a big roons slap o' dough wi' the tap hauf spread wi' steak cut sma' an' chappit ingins."
"Syne the boddom hauf's luftit an' laid ower the tap an' scolpit ee aidge."
"Nick oot twa holes ee tap fauld an' there y'are - a brode pie - a brodie - a bridie."

Hi guys hows it going................

A wee joke for you.

Jock & Jimmy were walking along a street in London.
Jock looked in one of the shop windows and saw a sign that caught his eye.
The sign read, "Suits £5.00 each, Shirts £2.00 each, trousers £2.50 per pair".
Jock said to his pal, "Look at the prices! We could buy a whole lot of these and when we get back to Scotland we could make a fortune.
Now when we go in you stay quiet, okay? Let me do all the talking cause if they hear our accents, they might think we are cheap Scotsmen and try to screw us. I'll put on my best London accent".
"OK Jock, I'll keep me mouth shut" said Jimmy
They go in and Jock said in a posh voice, "Hello my good man. I'll take 50 suits at £5.00 each, 100 shirts at £2.00 each, and 50 pairs of trousers at £2.50 each. I'll back up me truck ready to load them on, old chap!
The owner of the shop said quietly, "You're from Scotland, aren't you?"
"Well yes," said a surprised Jock. "What gave it away?"
The owner replied, "This is a dry-cleaners........" !

Match Report

Brechin City were in seventh heaven this afternoon after trouncing Stenhousemuir by 7-2 at Glebe Park.

A hat-trick from Alan Trouten was the highlight in a scintillating City performance.

City didn't have a weakness. Thjey were strong in defence, imaginative and adaptable in midfield and dangerous up front and the result gives new manager Ray McKinnon his second victory on the trot and no doubt a great deal of satisfaction and pride in the way his team set about their task this afternoon. The Warriors had no answer to City's second-half onslaught which must have delighted the home support who will hopefully now come out in greater numbers if City can continue this level of performance.

The City boss kept faith with the side that beat Stranraer by 3-0 the previous Saturday, the only change coming on the bench with Johnny Stewart replacing Ross Fisher.

Both sides started the game postively and there were near things at either end until the 9th minute when City grabbed the lead.

Trouten played a superb ball down the right to KURTIS BYRNE who kept his composure well before drawing Warriors keeper Robbie Thomson and then slotting the ball past the keeper into the net.

Both sides then had their fair share of possession and pressure but City were shocked in the 29th minute when the Warriors equalised.

Craig Nelson uncharacteristically misjudged a Sean Dickson cross from the left and the ball fell perfectly for JOHN GEMMELL who blasted home from close-range.

City didn't let this blow dishearten them and they regained the advantage just before the half-hour mark.

Andy Jackson collected the ball just at the edge of the visitors penalty-box and fired in a shot which came back off the post and then rolled along the goal-line and it was TROUTEN who was first to re-act slotting the ball home from around three yards out.

City continued to press and they got their reward with a further goal three minutes before the break.

A Jackson header from a Byrne cross was parried by Thomson into the path of TROUTEN who again made no mistake from close-range.

City supporters appetites must have been whetted by the opening 45 minutes performance but they were shocked when the Warriors reduced the deficit ten minutes into the second-half.

Former Forfar full-back Greg Ross made ground on the right and crossed perfectly into the box for SEAN DICKSON who powered home a header.

City again, didn't let their heads go down and they regained the initiative eight minutes later.

A Johnny Brown cross from the left was flicked on by Byrne into the path of TROUTEN who completed his first ever senior hat-trick by thundering an unstoppable angular drive into the bottom corner of the net.

City now had the bit between their teeth and they wnt three goals up a couple of minutes later.

Byrne was clean through on goal when he was upended in the box by Stenny midfielder Brown Ferguson who was then promptly shown the red card by referee Steven McLean and DAVID McKENNA made no mistake with the resultant spot-kick.

City were now on easy street and they made it six in the 83rd minute.

A Trouten shot was parried by keeper Thomson into the path of substitute DEREK CARCARY wide on the right and the ex Dumbarton man coolly lobbed the ball into the net.

There was no stopping th hosts now, and goal number seven arrived just a couple of minutes later when CARCARY fired home a left-foot drive from just outside the box

BEING SCOTTISH & PROUD :laugh::laugh:

Being Scottish is about driving a German car to an Irish pub for a Belgian beer, then travelling home, grabbing an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV.

And..............
the most Scottish thing of all? Suspicion of all things foreign!

Only in Scotland can a pizza get to your house faster than an
ambulance.

Only in Scotland do supermarkets make sick people walk all the way to the back of the shop to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

Only in Scotland do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries and a DIET coke.

Only in Scotland do banks leave both doors open and chain the pens to the counters.

Only in Scotland do we leave cars worth thousands of pounds on the drive and lock our junk and cheap lawn mower in the garage.

Only in Scotland do we use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we won't miss a call from someone we didn't want to talk to in the first place.

Only in Scotland are there disabled parking places in front of a skating rink.

NOT TO MENTION..

3 Scots die each year testing if a 9v battery works on their tongue.

142 Scots were injured in 1999 by not removing all pins from new
shirts.

58 Scots are injured each year by using sharp knives - Instead of screwdrivers.

31 Scots have died since 1996 by watering their Christmas tree while the fairy lights were plugged in.

19 Scots have died in the last 3 years believing that Christmas
decorations were chocolate.

Scottish Hospitals reported 4 broken arms last year after Xmas
cracker-pulling accidents.

18 Scots had serious burns in 2000 trying on a new jumper with a lit cigarette in their mouth.

A massive 543 Scots were admitted to A&E in the last two years after trying to open bottles of beer with their teeth.

5 Scots were injured last year in accidents involving out-of-control Scalextric cars.

and
finally...

In 2000 eight Scots were admitted to hospital with fractured skulls incurred whilst throwing up into the toilet.

Hey Missus Where's dat!!

Hi KB ,it's a county town in Northumberland,England Just outside Scottish border on East Coast ,about 50 miles south of Ednburgh and similar distance from Newcastle Upon Tyne
It was Scottish till 1482 ish then became English
Thought it might be decent halfway house to let me shop in Edinburgh and visit my best friend in Newcastle
