View Full Version : Mobile Phones Smartphone - prepaid alternatives in Tenerife

I'm on Tenerife 1-2 months a year, so it is probably not attractive for me to get a full Spanish mobile package. Also my Danish provider unfortunately does not offer a roaming package, so that a given amount of roaming is included. I know some UK providers offer this.

This leaves me more or less with the option of pre-paid card, but this is also a pain-in-the-ass. Have tried Vodafone (only telephone - no data), and just keeping the card alive, and filling it up with 20-30€ all the time, almost without using it, is quite annoying. Have heard that some of you guys use Lebara, but what is the best alternative these days? Might it even be worth considering to buy a full spanish package just to get rid of the roaming cheating, and what are then the cheapest options (only for my smartphone, so no need for huge data amounts)?

Perhaps an idea to make a sticky thread with this, as I assume this is something almost all users would benefit from having the best updated knowledge on.

Just get your phone unlocked and buy a spanish sim card ie: Movistar. Pop it in your phone & top it up, with as little as 5 euros each time you're on the rock. Simples ;)

If you have an unlockable iPhone4, then get yourself a Gevey Pro SIM. I got one when I went to England and the US recently, as my phone is locked to Vodafone ES. I successfully used a T-Mobile microsim in the UK for the duration of my stay. I didn't bother getting one in the US, as by the time I found a shop that sold 'em it wasn't worth it.

It saved me a bomb though, and I can use it again when I go to Greece and Romania in October and November. :)

Hits Mobile (http://www.hitsmobile.es/en/web/guest/home) are supposed to be good for calls, and Más Mobile (http://www.masmovil.es/telefonia-movil?gclid=CJOkz7vTyqoCFYkMtAodjVw1zg) for data, from what I've heard from users.

I use both for 5 months every winter. Hits I top up after 3 months (5 € minimum) and Mas Mobile 1 GB 15€

Hello mlun,
I have the same problem as I have a IPhone plan in Luxembourg.
Have you tried using Skype at the various bars and fast food outlets to talk and message,
It can work well.
