I would like to get my daughter some extra help over the summer holidays. She is in Spanish school, so ideally I'd like someone who has the knowledge of Spanish system, but speaks English to be able to teach her in English but then in Spanish too!

If anyone knows of a recommended tutor please send them my way :)

Some school teachers do this during the holidays, you could always ask her teacher that she has now if they would be willing to tutor during holidays, I'm sure they would be glad of some extra holiday money! They know the curriculum well and the majority speak (basic) English and Spanish.

Tried that route already, but they don't speak enough English!

Are you looking for a teacher or someone to work through the summer work books with her?

I'm looking for someone who is able to help improve her subjects she is currently doing at the moment. Explaining it in English and then again in Spanish so that she can go back to school in September with things being a lot clearer to her.

So, for me so long as the person is fluent in both languages and is competent in the subjects and experienced at tutoring I'd be happy!!!

Now I have a clear picture I have a friend who I can ask. I will get back to you if she can to put you in touch.

Well, as the introducing person having eggletonio help the son of one of our Russian friends, all I can do is to fully endorse what she has done for this young lad (he,s of a similar age) and I would very strongly recommend her to anyone!

Hi it's Don here.

I am a specialist in learning difficulty and educational psychology. Most of my work is UK based teaching using the internet and Skype. Distance, therefore is no problem in terms of geographical location on the island. Could you be more specific as to the benefits that your daughter may gain from private tuition i.e. general confidence boosting or particular problems with English, maths or a general concern and seeming reluctance to learn?

Private tuition is not cheap, no matter how reasonable the per session fee is as there are no, "quick fixes," as I am sure you realise. I would need to carry out a full diagnostic investigation of your daughter's current level of attainment before being able to give you an honest and thorough evaluation of the value to be gained from the proposed expenditure.

If you are continuing to look for a tutor with the specific skills to accelerate your daughter's progress please do get in touch to arrange for meeting.

Thank you Don, but its with Spanish that she needs help. There are just a few things that she gets ´stuck´on and I would like some help from someone who is fluent/Spanish native that speaks English too, so that they can explain it to her in both languages.

Thanks for the offer though.

Does anyone know if there are any Spanish learning courses due to start in the next few weeks. I'd prefer something that is 3 or 4 times a week, rather than an hour a week.

I would also be interested to hear from anyone who teaches privately, but again, several hours a week is preferred. Ideally, something that has a set course with books, so that it can be referred to in my own time too.

Please feel free to reply on the open thread, or PM me if you prefer.

Many thanks.
