That's a sight the witness will never forget that's for sure. Sounds to me like the pilot had some control but sadly that would mean he didn't eject.

From what reports we are getting , the pilot did not eject, the route to the airport was over a populated area, which includes a large shopping centre, the pilot avoided this and crashed near a village called Throop and eye-witnesses say the pilot was around 15m from the ground it crashed into a field and cleared the river, more when i hear

Thats great news, these displays are good to watch but dangerous for the tricks they do.

The crash site has been handed over to the Military Accident Investigation Unit, as per normal for the MOD, news is somewhat scarce :twak:

Pilot found dead :(:(

I was listening to the Arrows on their own frequency prior to the crash at the air festival.

The Merlin helicopter that had just done its display, first reported the crash scene to Bournemouth airport.

As I was also monitoring the coastguard frequency 156.000 at the same time - there was a lot of sudden activity.

2 Coastguard Helicopters and the Air ambulance attended.

Such a tragedy!

We are going to the Airshow tomorrow, but expect the Red Arrows will just perform a flypast as a mark of respect.

I was wondering at the time if you would either be there or listening.

Very sad news. :(

Saw the Red Arrows down here in North Cornwall yesterday as they flew overhead to somewhere - actually, I think they flew in the back door and out of the front as they were so low! Day before that three of them flew over on their way south west but have no idea where they were going. Sad that a young pilot lost his life today.

Very sad ....The Pilot came from the county where I live ,Rutland ...and he lived in the village of Morcott where we lived for 12 years ...before moving down the road ....

Some years ago , when I lived with my parents in North Luffenham ( it was an airbase then) also in Rutland ....The Red Arrows were based there temporary ....and on a summers day sitting in the garden , I used to watch them practicing ....

It was very moving that after the one minutes silence today, all the small boats in the bay sounded horns lead by RFA Frigate Mounts Bay.
