For some reason I can't send private messages. I can add a title but the main message box (where you type) remains grey. I have tried messaging by replying to mail sent and sending new. Not sure if my computer has changed it's mind overnight, down to it's settings or a Forum problem. HELP !
It maybe because you only have 3 posts !!!

I have checked your settings and your account is set to send and receive PMs, so I can't understand what's wrong.
I will send you one and see if you can reply..
I have been getting this problem this morning when clicking on replying with quote ? only with some threads though
Ditto. Have to keep searching to get around it!

Hi Slodgedad,
Sorry, I could not send you a reply / private message.
It seems like I cannot message those who have messaged me. If I click on another member I can message them (atleast once)

***UPDATE***
From this thread I've clicked Aljay, Balcony and Megaloo then send private message but the message area remains Grey although a Title can be typed in but cannot be sent.
I did some testing, and I can reproduce this error in Internet Explorer, but other browsers appears not to have it.
The solution I found (for now), is to click on the diagonal bars in the lower tight corner of the message box - then the gray disappears and you can enter text as normal.
This is both for PM:s and for responding to threads.
I hope this works until we can find the real issue. (Apparently some bug in the latest Forum software version.)

Thanks. I've 'dragged the 'diagonal bars' and as soon as I do so the message area turns white and we are messaging again !

Can anyone tell me how to reply to private messages on here. I click on 'reply' then I get a box saying 'recipient' and 'title' but I dont see a message box to type in.
What am I misssing ??
Any help would be appreciated
Hi Mike, Normally underneath the PM you have been sent there is a space to write your reply, and then you click "submit message" However we had a forum upgrade a few days ago and there seems to be a few gremlins that need sorting out. When i just checked my PMs the message i have received is also in the space i want to write in,so i would imagine i would have to write my reply under that as in "reply with quote" I will send you a test PM now.

Hi thanks for the PM but cant reply .
PM Problem ......i can put in who to and title but the message box remains grey and allows no cursor to start the message .On recieving a PM like the one from you ,i cant replie as the message box remains grey .
Posts .....i cant post without using a members quote then deleting then once written and post response it takes ages loading then just before it gives two options ,one of which is "Leave This Page " i select that and post is added to the thread .I cant go into advanced mode when i do my post does not show as the message box again is grey so you cant write in that or add smillies .
Sorry to start a new thread ,but with no pm facility to explain the situation i had to start a new thread .You can remove this thread (blooming heck as if you need my permission !!) if you want to reply through Pms which i can read .
More concerned about the posts issues than the Pms i can do without those really
Cheers
Just posted the other option with leave this page is "Stay on this page " which should have been obvious to me !!!!

I answered a query on this last week but not. sure where it is now. I had this exact problem when using my daughters laptop, which was using Internet Explorer. The text box of the PM being greyed out.
I downloaded and installed Mozilla Firefox and this cured the problem, I was able to send and reply to PM's OK.
Yes, Slodge was telling our seanocelt about this remedy for his similar problem - can't remember what the thread was entitled

In my PM, I asked you to reply via the contact form (https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?hl=en_US&formkey=dFprcWtSNk9WTWwzSGkwdDhVSW8weUE6MQ#gid=0) ;)

In fact, I've now merged all these threads together, so they are all in this thread.
The problem seems to be with the new editor that VBulletin have installed with the 4.1.4 version of the forum. When we upgraded from 4.1.3 to 4.1.5, which we are now running on, we got this editor too. The editor seems to be having problems with Internet Explorer.
I cannot do ANYTHING about this issue. It is a bug with VBulletin, that I have to wait for VBulletin to issue a fix for. So, you have 2 choices...
1) put up with it until a fix is issued and we install it, which I will do as soon as I get notification of the fix (I am subscribed to these notifications, so as soon as it's released, I'll know about it)
2) install another browser.
Thanks :)

OK... If you cannot install another browser on your PC, you could always run a portable version. This will run straight from a folder which you can either put on a USB drive, or on your desktop... wherever you choose :)

I use these at school. I have all the portable programs I need on my USB stick and carry it with me, as the school computers are locked down and do not allow you to install programs. I even have a portable version of Photoshop so that I can make worksheets for class. :)

I've replied to a multitude of PMs from members with the same problem.
As Admin has explained, the new V.B. doesn't like IE, and I'm not surprised that there is no quick fix, as yet, as I don't suppose it is one of their priorities, I hate it.
If I go onto a site that will only allow stuff via IE, which some still do, I'd rather not bother.
The sooner IE, IMO, dies a death the better.
the new V.B. doesn't like IE, and I'm not surprised that there is no quick fixThe VB Team are aware of the issue, as I and others have submitted it as a bug. Until it's fixed though, it's a waiting game. :)
