Hi
Probably a daft question but will UK bought tv's work in tenerife?
We are also looking for names/locations of stores to buy all items of household furniture
Also a source for a super king size bed with a pocket sprung mattress

Can we also have suggestions for buying all household electricals from a washing machine to a toaster- perhaps even TV,s !

We have been advised that rather than shipping house contents from the uk is more economical to buy in tenerife - comments appreciated

***we did try and post this thread earlier but cannot see it so having a second try !! ***

Ours did 6 years ago. Replaced and updated since but it did work at the time.

If you aren't planning to ship a container or buy part of a container, then clearly you'll have to buy stuff in Tenerife. We shipped out a container which was expensive. But I was glad to keep some 'treasured' items and some of the ordinary items such as my washing machine is still working (oh God why did I write that).

Where I am on La Palma people often rent out furnished places and often sell places furnished as well. Do you know that you will be moving into an unfurnished place?

It used to be a YES/NO kind of answer, they would work with video, DVD players, playstation etc etc.....

but as for TV (terrestrial) some makes and models did work perfectly and some didn't, this was because the range of frequency was not reachable on some TV's

Now all TV's should work perfectly because there isn't any terrestrial channels, meaning you would need to purchase a TDT box.

As for the electrical side of things there wouldn't be any problems there if it was mains voltage 220 - 250V

'this was because the range of frequency was not reachable on some TV's'

It was more to do with the sound offset being wrong.

TDT = TERRESTRIAL digital Television.

Terrestrial as in land based transmitters

You forgot to add 'analogue' in front of 'terrestrial'

With the advent of Digital all TVs are virtually the same.

With the old analogue system countries used different carrier wave for video and audio so although you could receive both, you couldn't get them together.

Every TV now needs a digital source, if your TV is an old analogue it matters not as you can only receive digital channels here which need a receiver.

Are we dealing with a complete removal of all household stuff? If so you are setting up a new tent here on Tenerife. That being the case I always think its down to affordability. Can you not flog all your stuff in your own area and buy new or second hand stuff here. Saves a whole lot of hassle, on new items you,ll have guarantee,s amd of course the telly bought here will work here, notwithstanding out Forum experts views!

Electrocris at CC Abora between Los Cris and PDLA are reasonably priced, deliver and give good aftercare service.

Electro Bello in Los Cris - just off the square are helpful too.
