Work on the island ring road as it passes through the town of Adeje is apparently putting at risk residents of Lower Tijoco say the neighbourhood association Avtiba.

The continuous movement of heavy trucks, "which can reach fifty daily, has resulted in many local houses having cracks appearing," says the president of that group, Jovany Morin.

He explains that the law for local district roads allow vehicles of only a maximum of "two tons. However, on the road are lorries exceeding 35 tons," he considers that this situation is causing damage to houses*.

The work on the island ring road in the area of Tijoco Bajo "it was presumed that alternative routes would be developed, but I do not know the reasons for those not to have happened and no alternative has been chosen but that all the heavy traffic goes through the center of town"*, says Morin.

Indignation

Other annoyances "are the excess noise and dust that has been created within the district for six months as a result of the works, because although we were told they would spray water to avoid this problem, the reality is quite different"*says the head of Avtiba.

The president of the group indicates that it all off, "and despite the neighbors putting up with all these discomforts, the works leave Tijoco Bajo more incommunicado than it has ever been."

"It is outrageous that the future highway passes so close to the houses, some just five meters away, and there is a link to facilitate entry into the motorway, but we will have to go further aong the road to access it,"*explained the president.

Given these problems, Morin Jovany looks to the local government to commit itself to solve all these problems, "most of the neighborhood is completely disgusted. We are ready to mobilize" in order to solve the problems seen by the neighborhood association.

I have friends that live in Los Menores and all those coloured houses have cracks in them, ironically the ones further from the motorway have the biggest ones!

There will be lots of repercussions from this. ;)

It wouldn't matter if the houses crumbled and fell apart, niether the council or the cabildo would not lift a finger to help. When the construction of the notorious El Barranco development was in it's foundation stage Taurus Developments turned the Amarilla barranco into an urban quarry, they hacked out the sides of the barranco with multiple rock breakers digging down a shear 40ft to create an underground car park and to facilitate a 5story construction on top, this was done only 8METRES from the Aries complex in Pebble beach village. Adjascent properties suffered wall cracks, floor tile cracks, intrisic water pipes and drains destroyed, and untold damage to their foundations. The police were called, the cabildo contacted, but the company were allowed to carry on wreaking havoc. Thats the sick side of Tenerife.
