So, on top of the headache that I've had for almost 6 weeks non-stop (yes, I am seeing a specialist!) I have developed the worse twitch in my right eye... I look like the love child of Ann Robinson & Harry Rednap!!!

Has anybody had similar problems? (not relating to potentially having famous parents ;) ) If so, what worked for you, in regards to stopping it, and did you win huge damages in the paternity suit? (relating to possibly having famous parents :D ).

It's driving me totally insane.... Ok, more insane than I was!

I think you need to investigate whether or not you may have a hemi facial spasm. It is something I have and I receive treatment in Tenerife. It will involve an MRI scan. If you want to natter about it further just let me know. I hope your "twitch" is something different that clears up on its own.

PS: Are you seeing a neurologist?

Yes, I am seeing a neurologist, and supposedly one of the best... What is this hemi facial spasm (sounds poo :( ). I'm seeing the specialist again tomorrow (actually, that should read later today! ;) ) Should I mention this to him? Of course I have mentioned my twitching eye, but up until now it has been dismissed as 'one of those things'... It's making even the simplest jobs difficult, let alone take a bloody photo... Not impressed! :(

Feel yourself lucky. Maxine, at least it looks like it's treatable.

Some are not so fortunate.

You sound in even worse shape than we are in this house, Maxine. Hope it sorts itself out. Not Bell's Palsey is it? Which I can't spell. Can you close the bad eye? OH had this and slept with the bad eye wide open and I can't tell you how spooky that was.

Now is not the time to be feeling myself... I've been told that will make me blind! :D

I'm not sure it is treatable, in fact only last week the doctor told me it maybe something I just have to get used to. There's other things going on too, that I'm not prepared to discuss on here, and it's all making me very anxious and miserable... Having a bad headache is rotten enough, having it for 6 weeks non-stop is an absolute nightmare... :(

Yes, I can close it, but it flickers constantly, even when I'm sleeping (according to OH)...

A hemi facial spasm is caused when the outer coating of a facial nerve is damaged, which means it “mis-fires”. This is what causes the twitching. There are varying degrees of severity. It can be that you have a twitchy eye, right through to severe facial contortions. It is different for everyone and most common in women.

In America they operate quite routinely and the success rate is quite high. That is the “cure”. However a very common treatment is botox injections which you have around the eye. This stops the nerve that is misbehaving from making the eye twitch or the facial muscles tick. The effects last for around 3 to 4 months.

I have been having the botox treatment via my neurologist as she is not happy to do the operation. However I recently met a neurosurgeon who is happy to discuss the possibility with me.

A twitchy eye and/or twitchy facial muscles will definitely cause you headaches. The eye gets tired trying to focus which results in a headache. I am speaking from experience.

Do mention it tomorrow as a good neurologist will know what a hemi-facial spasm is. An MRI will give you a diagnosis one way or another. If it is a hemi-facial spasm and you do decide to “live with it“, be prepared for people to mention it to you, as if you didn’t know. I have lost count of the number of times I have been told “did you know your eye is twitching?” or asked “why is your eye twitching?”

Good luck tomorrow (well, today) and fingers crossed your neurologist can give you some answers!

I developed a sort of twitch in my right eye a few years ago and found out it was due to either lack of sleep or stress. It came and went for several years and now has disappeared. Since then I've read this twitch is very common in people. Hopefully your twitch is similar Max. Sorry to hear you've still got that wretched headache. :(

I didn't mean to make you feel worse! (If that's even possible). Doesn't sound like Bell's Palsy if you can close the eye. At least that's one thing you can tick off the list. Let us know how you get on today and tell the neurologist absolutely everything that's wrong with you.

I would think that as it has developed after weeks of headaches, that it is probably down to a lack of nourishing sleep. Good luck with the neurologist today! P.S. Thats also probably why you have the speech capabilities of a 3yo. I suffer from chronic fatigue and display the same traits at times.

Reading back I do seem a bit doom and gloom - sorry Maxine :ashamed:

Hope you find the way forward with the neurologist today but perhaps there are some self help measures you can take to help yourself; taking time out to chill, getting enough sleep and relaxation etc. Friends of mine who have had health issues between them see a homeopath who has been a huge help. I am thinking of going to see them myself actually. If you want the details let me know.

Good luck!

I've been prescribed Amitriptyline (spelling?) for another problem but when I started having continual headaches they increased the dose and the headaches stopped ..... Now I have to say that the headaches were probably not in the same league as yours - they were painful but not excruciating... Either way, I hope you get it sorted soon as being in constant pain will drain you of all energy... Sending love and hugs..

After lengthy tests I ended up at a neuro surgeon and he put me on Amitriptyline which made the headaches much worse. I went back to him to tell him this and he said he couldn't do any more. So I've still got them. I think the consultants in Tenerife are far more thorough in their investigations thank the UK. Well that's what I've found in my experience- even 20 plus years ago.

Hope things improve for you soon Maxie - it sounds pretty bad. Biggest problem when you have something like that unexplained is that you worry and stress more, which makes it all worse. I know it's no good to tell you to try and relax - so I'll relax for you and you can tell me if it's getting any better!

It'll be SIX weeks on Thursday... :wall:

Ok, back from the neurologist... not happy :( I'm being re-admitted for them to carry out some more tests, including a lumber puncture  They wanted me to go in there and then, but I wanted to come home and gather my thoughts first, so I'll go in tomorrow morning. I've been told to expect to be in for anything up to a week.

So fed up I could cry, but that'll just make my head hurt more ;) Today has been a stinker, even 2 mega painkillers haven't reduced, let alone shift the headache, and my eye could win a twitching competition ;)

I'm hoping to have a chat with Jelly Baby tonight, so I go in armed with some knowledge. Meanwhile, I will ask Kirsty to keep you up to speed with how things go, as I don't think I'll take my laptop in with me... there again! :D

Thanks for all your words of wisdom xx

This isn't a 'normal' twitch, it's more like a full on spasm, that's got worse over the last couple of months, but the fact that it's accompanied by a 6 week constant headache is what's causing concern....

Shouldn't have a problem with extra charges Kirsty, as the plan I'm on would cover it. I only know this as Geoff used his phone as a connection for 4 weeks last year whilst we were waiting for our new lines to be installed.

Right, I need to shift my backside, I'm meant to be checking in at 11 and I still haven't been in the shower... Ooops, late again! :D
