I dont have any relevant info for you, but i'm sure someone will be online with experience of this. Just would like to say thank you for taking your friend with you...so many don't, good luck in England x

Hi please dont do this, its too much for any animal. The best way is a 4 hour plane trip which there is no stress on the animal at all, and I have done loads back to the UK for cats and dogs, its what I specialise in. Cookey has recommended u contact me via p/m, at the moment I am helping Cookey get his dog and cat back to the UK, the cheapest way I know possible. I take the hassle and stress away from you and your dog, I do everything for u free of charge, I just charge for the boarding of 3 weeks while I sort everything out for the dog, or longer if u want to go ahead, and then u just turn up at an airport of your choice in the UK and collect him, as I said I do everything for u ......
Please p.m me will be happy to quote u for the trip back, even try and get u a flight share, and also tell u about the change in the quarantine law which starts 01/01/2012 which now is only 21 days. I have already booked one dog and one cat for the end of January for the first flight out operating within the new law ........

Hi Michele, I have this question asked alot, basically I would not transport them by road, very costly and I dont think its right for the dog. The alternative is a flight, the crate or box must be big enough to have him stand up with space between his head and the roof, to lie down and turn around. You cannot sedate them its not allowed, but what I did 11 years ago, I got the crate / or transport box, and I put my GT DANE in there for an hour, then longer, then longer until it was his friend and looked forward to going in there and sleeping. I am sending a big Husky back in November, have bought the box and already have started to put him in there so he sees it as something nice, plus when he comes out I always reward him with a treat. He is a panicky dog, so was my GT DANE, but he just came off the flight after being in the cage for 7 hours as if nothing had gone on ........ hope this helps .........

Even if you go by ferry the dog can not stay with you and remains in a seperate hold..this is a sentence from the FAQ section on the Naviera Armas website.

īDuring the trip pets must remain in the cages provided on the ship. If passengers wish to see their pets, they must check with the crew, who will accompany them if necessary`

Good luck with your plans

Spot on Cookey people dont realise the trip they are taking on.
I went the opposite way, UK to TENERIFE, 11 years ago. 36 hours from Portsmouth to Bilbao, and yr correct the animal has to stay in a cage the whole journey, then u have to cross Spain, dont forget u have to travel at night because of the dog, and find pet friendly hotels, very long journey, then u go from Cadiz to Tenerife, another 36 hours for dog to be in a cage, and then u have to clear customs yourself, the whole thing for both ferries and a car then was 1000 GBP.
Its def more now, this is 11 years ago, the journey was bad enough without pets, dont forget u can also get rough weather too. So my Gt Dane and my 4 cats followed me over by PLANE 4 hour journey 5 weeks later after we had settled in, this is why I am starting my new Scheme called

HOME JAMES FREE PET PASSPORT SERVICE.

You give me yr pets and go back to the UK and I will do everything at cost for free, apart from the 3 weeks board and taking them to the airport. If u want more info pls contact me, and its cheaper too .......

Cookey have sent u a p.m with prices for your cat and dog ........

I did some research last year in taking them back by car as my OH didnīt want them to fly but when we realised it wouldnīt be as straight forward and more costly and stressful I then only had to use some of my womanly charm :twak: on him and he has now come round to the idea of flying them back....

This forum has helped me a lot with information on taking them by road and air.

my husband recently did the drive from UK to Tenerife and he said it was so sad to see the dogs holed up downstairs in the crates with all the cars, my 4 month old boxers flew over with me and wasnt traumatised by any of it, i would highly recommend flying your pooch back to the UK

Thank god he has seen the light, unlike the poor dogs and cats downstairs on a ferry, in a cage for a total of 72 hours while they cross from UK to TENERIFE, if u love yr animals then do what I did, get the ferry yourself if u want to bring yr car over but PLEASE fly them over, either way ....... so less hassle and stress for all concerned ......

Hi Michelle
I have done some research as we are moving out and bringing our 4 bulldogs with us.
But as far as we can find the airlines won't take flat faced breeds, unless anyone knows an airline that will?
We also have an 8 week old puppy that we want to bring too but she is too young for a passport does anyone know how we can bring her too?
Thanks hank

hi its a hard one ,we have a lot of friends who have put bullys on to planes and the other end they had died,as you know the bullys personality is like no other breed of dog also the genetics are very diff from other dogs ,they have smaller trachea and can have elongated soft palate so if they get stressed and start the roaring they can go into respirtary collapse or heart failure...thats why we looked into the ferry from cadiz but it is i think 48 plus hrs and was told you can go down to see them..there is breeders in tenerife north and i did email and ask for advice but had no reply....jet 2 fly them i think look on there site ..re a puppy a friend from uk transported i think a 16 wk old to greece inside plane in a box next to her i think that was klm..but the pup had to be under a certain weight and have passport ect....these are the risks you will take all may go ok but then again it may not....please keep in touch and pm me if you want ...good luck with your choice xxx

My boxers had to be 13 weeks before any vet would rabies shot them , I got the passport the same day as they don't need a bloodtest , so you just have to wait 21 days before you fly puppy out of the country

Thanks Michelle, we are driving from he uk with the 4 adult dogs, making a few stops along the way. As these are my breeding stock, that is why I wanted to keep a pup but might have to scrap that idea. Do you know what the conditions and location of the kennels are the ferry are?
Thanks all
