i was reading the post made by tonypub earlier, and he is predicting that we are going to get a better deal on our exchange rate next week(i always said you where a banker tony;)) but i have always bought my euros in tenerife, you always get a better deal, at least 1 or 2 euros, so if tony has predicted it right how could i get the tenerife exchange rate while still being in the uk?

For a difference of 1 or two Euros to the pound, I will sell my house and invest the cash in Euros!:D

Caxtonfx are offering 1.330 to the pound, which is the same rate that Young Golfer said was the rate in Tenerife yesterday.

Yes your right, but Caxtonfx are selling the Euro at 1.13 as a exchange rate, just like the money exchanges in Tenerife they normally like a two or three cent profit per pound.:)

BoPeep

The rate went up from 1.153 on Thursday to 1.162 on Friday in the money markets.

Someone in the European Central Bank opened their mouth and put their foot in it on top of the Germans getting fed up with working hard to give money to Greece and making it clear by voting against Angela Merkel' party in their elections.

Who knows whether they will remember this on Monday morning however!

Morning Leam_Lin, looks like another cracking day here again for us!!!

The thing is I don't know that area at all now - everywhere has changed so much. Can you recommend a place to park, but there again if you do, I won't know it!! We drove around the area of the hospital and I thought I was on another island - couldn't find a place to park to have a wander around, it looked a really nice area. We are specifically going to Troya Beach to try a few cocktails, so am guessing that as the word Troya appears in their address they will be close by. :)

I suppose all we can do is drive down there and take a look - but so difficult when you don't know where you're going and there's loads of traffic behind you. I may just go into Los Cris, where I know! :)

todays commercial rate = 1.16, and usually you can get 1.13 -1.14 in Tenerife

Caxton FX offer 2.75% below the commercial rate, and today that's 1.135

so on card or in Tenerife, still better than UK post office

I use AXIA FX Ltd and get a rate about 1% below commercial rate but that’s transferred into my Spanish bank account and you have to do at least £1000 a time. If you bank with RBS it’s very simple as that’s who AXIA use, but I’m with Lloyds and it still very simple if you use internet banking.

1.15 ?? They must be charging a wack in comission as the commercial rate is only 1.14 today and CaxtonFX only offering 1.137, so you'll be lucky to get 1.11 in the best of places today

No commission if you have both accounts and do it online.

If you go into the branch I guess you may get charged commission and they may look at the current rate.

Online they hold the first thing in the morning rate all day so I look at the forex market about 4pm and make my decision from that!

Hi

I work for Smart Currency Exchange and we are a new partner of the Tenerife Forum. We aim to save our clients money when buying currency by providing better than bank rates (2-4%) of exchange as well as working closely with clients to help them buy at the right time.

Banks set their rates at the beginning of the day to cover the fluctuations either side of the interbank rate and to guarantee them a good profit. We deal with the live market, have lower overheads and are the only currency exchange to not pay our staff a commission. Therefore being able to offer a much better exchange rate.

If you would like to find out more, please get in touch for some more information or a casual chat on your available options. Please see my signature for my contact details.

Isn't it crazy when all the talk is of the Euro in such trouble that it is the pound that is weak and the Euro strong against it.

This isn't the bank rate, this is the interbank rate. (This is the rate used by the banks to trade currency between themselves in large amounts. i.e. millions and billions)

The bank will sell at around 1.13. The banks offer much poorer rates and they set their rates at the beginning of the day.

Please can you explain the caxton rate of 1.15, this is very poor. Surely Caxton deal with the live market? We offer a rate much closer to the interbank rate - i.e 1.16. However we never offer a set rate. We always ring the bank to achieve the best rate.

I can appreciate this is quite hard to understand. If you download the overseas property buyers guide in my signature, it explains this much better (in the first few pages)

As you say and i said the 1.17 is the interbank rate. Caxton card rate is the rate1. 1450 is the rate you get when you load your prepaid card with no charges to do so or to spend or withdraw money from a cash machine in Tenerife. Do you not make transaction charge?

1.145 loading, not as good as today's rate here. Plus I would say even though Caxton won't make a charge for using an ATM, the bank where the ATM is will. They also say a bill for 150 euros in Paris will only take 150 euros off the card.

So the moral of the story is 'Don't go to Paris, it's too flippin expensive'

Thanks 'fixer'. 1.15 is very good for cash. Why do you use Caxton fast pay, when transferring larger sums? I generally find online platforms offer worse rates, then speaking to a trader directly.

When you are next looking to trade, give us a go. I'd be keen to hear your feedback of our service, irrelevant of whether you trade.

Fair comment on the banks not charging. That's interesting to know.

I haven't taken a payment with this card in the shop, so I'd be interested to know if I would be charged by the merchant or not. Other holiday cards, my merchant has charged me, and I would take that into account when selling.

Stay away from airport exchanges, they generally give a very poor rate of exchange.

The great advantage of using a UK based company like CaxtonFx is that you don't have to carry large amounts of cash to Tenerife and you can withdraw your money from ATM's in Tenerife with no charges or commission, the euros in your account are exactly what you have to spend, so you will not have to walk about the resorts looking for the best rate available that day.
