I have just noticed that the 14.25 flight to Tenerife from Glasgow Prestwick (Ryanair) was diverted to Faro.

Anyone got any info on this.

We are flying same route tomorrow morning.

Had a friends flying Manchester to Tenerife some years back, had to land a Faro to take on more fuel due to running in to unexpected headwinds.

That could be the reason with the high winds. The Ryanair website not great for this kind of thing. Last update is eta to be 18.20. Doesn't show landed.

It is common for flights to be diverted to Faro due to strong headwinds. Once at the end of Spain/Portugal they have to make a decision to have enough fuel get to Tenerife or stop to refuel, this being about the half way point and the last place to refuel or to go back to refuel.

They also stop at Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain for refuelling if running low due to headwinds. Been there, done that and bought the t-shirt.

Added after 3 minutes:

Your flight for 06.40 tomorrow has no nasty words against it so you'll be going on time I expect. Winds have all died down down here so go and enjoy - I'll wave as you fly past in the morning! :witch2:

Bit of a bumpy ride home for some from Gran Canaria yesterday due to high winds.
