With the official amount of "abonados" (Season ticket holders) now put at 9.300 at the start of the week CDT have been raising a few eyebrows in the mainland Spanish press. That figure is set to rise by the end of the week. I was at the club officies yesterday buying more season tickets for Armada Sur members and the guy at the counter said that the 10,000 mark should be reached very soon.
-Tenerife is the club with more season ticket holders than the whole of the Spanish 2nd B (80 clubs in total)
The blanquiazules currently have more season ticket holders than 19 other clubs in the Spanish 2nd Division.
-They have more season ticket holders than Getafe CF and Rayo Vallecano who`both play in the Primera.
Two straight relegations have not dampened the spirit of the Tenerife support as well as a President & board who are not exactly "popular" with fans. You could say ofcourse "well good, but does´nt that show other clubs in a bad light? This is true, many crowds away from the big 15 or so in La Liga are terrible.
Reasons? The media "love-in" with Madrid & Barca and the over televised La Liga(every single game is shown live) does not help breed local support for local teams.
Some of the pricing is insane. Newly promoted Granada charge between 55€ & 70€ for a regular match ticket.
All in all we can be pleased with the loyal following we have here. The only danger we have is that we get too big headed about it and feel we belong back in the top flight. There is alot of work to do. The President & board can be applauded for putting together a decent squad and keeping the prices reasonable for this level of football. They do respect the fans that cannot be doubted but they lack the knowhow to make this club really great. President Concepcion can and I believe will get CD Tenerife back into the 2nd division but we need a takeover from there on in my opinion.
