Madrid, Europa Press – The Spanish Social security system “lost” 19.715 foreign persons paying into the system in August, 1,06% less than the previous month leaving 1.830.046 foreign workers, informed the Ministry or work and immigration Tuesday.
With the decrease in August the social security system have now 2 months decrease of foreigners registered as working in the system as in July there were 1.142 less.
The total number of foreigners registered in the social security system at the end of the eighth month of the year were: general workers 1.207.765, in farming 224.120 , self employed 208.286, cleaners working in private homes 183.852, Sailors 5.404, and 620 working in coal mining.
In the group of general workers a total of 307.229 foreigners, 25,44%, work in the catering industry, also 16,72% work in shops (201.979 affiliated) & 11,33%, in administration and auxiliary services (136.893).
Of all the foreigners registered with social security at the end of last month, 1.155.234 came for non-EU countries and 674.813 came for EU nations.
Of the Non-EU citizens, 204.796 were Moroccan & 144.106 from Ecuador, Next came Colombia, with 104.940 workers followed by China who has 85.838 persons paying into the system.
Of the other non-EU citizens are split with Bolivia (84.846), Peru (67.301), Argentina (44.260), Dominican Republic (33.269), Ukraine (31.878), and Paraguay (27.935).
On the other side those who come from the EU-27, Romanians, Italians and Bulgarians are the biggest groups 292.521, 66.752 & 53.886 respectively. Followed by Brits and Portuguese, with 50.967 & 47.849, and a slightly smaller group Germany, with 40.900 affiliated. CATALUÑA & MADRID Have 43,92% of the Immigrants.
Specifically Cataluña has 418.268 foreigners paying into the system and Madrid has 384.653.
After these are Andalusia, with 205.013 affiliatedddddd foreigners; Comunidad Valenciana, with 193.895 workBalearicccccs, with 88.130; Canary Isles, with *81.207; Murcia, with 80.369; Castilla-La Mancha, with 70.152; Aragón, with 65.770; Castilla y León, with 60.083, & the Basque region with 53.334.
The community with least immigrants registered with social security at the end of August are Galicia, with 37.420 foreigners; Navarra, with 25.889; Asturias, with 15.852; Extremadura, with 15.618; La Rioja, with 15.020; Cantabria, with 13.147, and the autonomouss cities of Melilla, with 3.833, & Ceuta, with 2.395.

Yes, indeed ...there was quite a flight from the Canaries after the construction collapse (particularly South Americans, I gather) ... still continuing, though slower

For the same reason, one hellava lot of Eastern Europeans, Moldovans and Romanians to-gether with Bulagarians, left Spain. I thought the title a bit mis-used since it give sthe impression that the foreigners have just stopped paying into the system!
