That represented 53,424 more than in August of 2010, which was an increase of 22.20%. And, so far this year, Tenerife has welcomed 2,445,218 foreign passengers, up by 24.04% on last year’s numbers. Overall, the Canary Islands [...]

Personally i find these figures a tad hard to believe. Given that there are 31 days in August that would mean that we would have had over 9400 passengers a day, every day. I can't see it myself!

That would be 60 or 70 flights a day, I can't see it either!

It certainly seems excessive but then again, split between 2 airports and it only says "passengers" so I guess they're including the boats coming in as well?

it also says foreign passengers which I presume excludes Spanish visitors, making it even harder to believe. If we had that many visitors here we'd all be rich now!

If you average the seating on JUST the Boeing 737 class (incuding 300/400 ect) it will give you around 44 flights a day. Then add the larger aircraft that fly out and the figure 9400 looks very realistic.....

if we had 44 flights a day I think we would notice as our skies would be full. Especially as it would have to be all day every day, not realistic at all. If the sky was that busy I think we would of all noticed by now without reading about it.

Does anyone have an actual figure of how many flights a day come in to both the north and south airports?

Easy, 44 daily movements is a very small number, 44 give you an average of 2 flights an hour over a 24 hour period, even if we reduce it to say between 06:00-00:00 which is the main operation time, it is still only 3 flights an hour, TFS handles a lot more than that. TFS is a very slot restricted airport on certain days. Just to give you some figures the airport had 51,858 commercial movements in 2010, divided by 364 days (excluding xmas day) that gives an average of 142 flights per day.

That is before we even consider the North Airport, which although smaller, still brings in a good few million passengers per year.

Go down to the airport on a Friday and you'll be watching an aircraft land every couple of minutes.

Those figures are easily achievable, rememeber that during the peak periods airlines put on larger aircraft out to TFS too, carrying upto 300 passengers at a time.

Just spoke to a Russian holiday executive friend of Mrs. T. who supports these figures. Surprisingly she said that there had been a significant increase in German tourists!
