A 37-YEAR-OLD man wanted by Staffordshire Police for more than two years has been arrested in Tenerife.

David Kelly, who was formerly living at an address in North Street, Stoke, had not been seen since failing to answer his police bail in 2009.

But Kelly was finally tracked down to an address in the tourist town of Los Cristianos on Monday after the execution of a European Arrest Warrant.

It followed an investigation by Staffordshire Police, Interpol and the Spanish authorities.

Kelly had to appear before a Spanish court earlier this week before being flown back to Britain.

Kelly had been arrested in early 2009 in connection with the theft of a lorry loaded with about £300,000 of electrical goods from James Irlam logistics company, at Hanchurch.

After returning to Britain earlier this week, Kelly was charged with conspiring to steal the lorry.

It is alleged that between January and February, 2009, at Hanchurch he conspired with others to steal electrical goods belonging to Proctor and Gamble.

He is now due to appear at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday.

He is currently in custody.

Following Kelly’s arrest, Chief Inspector Ricky Fields, from Staffordshire Police, told The Sentinel: “As a result of detailed work carried out by Staffordshire Police officers together with Interpol and the Spanish authorities, David Kelly was arrested at his home address in Los Cristianos, Tenerife, on Monday, September 19, and extradited back to England.

“He has now appeared at North Staffordshire Magistrates’ Court and been remanded in custody to appear at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court at the end of this month.”

Three other men have already been jailed for a total of more than 10 years after being involved in the theft of the lorry.

Brothers Daniel Jones, aged 31, of Birch Valley Road, Kidsgrove, and his brother Matthew, aged 32, of Station Avenue, Whitby, North Yorkshire, were jailed for 40 months and 32 months respectively after admitting conspiracy.

Convicted drug offender Keith Wilks, aged 49, of Harrington Court, Weston Coyney, was convicted of conspiracy by a jury and jailed for four-and-a-half years.

The stolen lorry was later found abandoned on the A50 between Stoke and Uttoxeter.

It had been driven to the JRB Yard in Grove Road, Fenton, and stripped of its load.

During Wilks’s trial at Stafford Crown Court, the jury heard that Kelly had not answered his police bail.
