We are so lucky living here.

I was out on a brief drive today, a rarity for me during daylight hours these days.

As we descended from Ifonche, I couldn't help but reflect on what a beautiful place we live in.

The wonderful winding mountain roads (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150258843928584&set=a.10150258831868584.341784.825098583&type=1&theater), the lovely landscapes (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150260115883584&set=a.10150260105898584.342234.825098583&type=1&theater), the spectacular sunsets (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150327470193584&set=a.10150327461953584.361467.825098583&type=1&theater), the blue seas and blue skies (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150292810653584&set=a.10150292789998584.352788.825098583&type=1&theater), the cheap fuel, the low crime rates, the friendly people, the fabulous food, the list goes on.

A lot of us moan about almost everything Canarian, and want to change everything to achieve our own Little Britain, but with a little time to reflect, this place is as close as many of us will get to Heaven.

I agree.. And I can't get enough of the place. I'm soooooo looking forward to my next visit in 25 days! I'm looking forward to waking up to peace and quiet, reading my ebooks while looking out over the pool and walking along the Golf and seeing Teide on one side and the Marina on the other... Bliss..!

Ifonche? That's a quarter of the way down for us! Know what you mean though. The sea of clouds is something that I'll never tire of. The higher the better for me!!!!

We get that sea of cloud almost every morning now Carpenter. It is just such an amazing sight to see from up here and also quite eerie looking.

Couldn't agree more... I also give thanks daily to be so fortunate to be experiencing this.

An added bonus is ..... I do have the most fantastic view of Mount teide from all windows in my home and when visibility is clear, can make out the roads and see the car lights.

Can any of you see Gran Canaria as clear?

haha, astara, your easy pleased, but then i could watch crashing waves and look round at mountains (well glens) in bonnie Scotland, only difference is you would be watching it in July with your thermals, gloves and bobbly hat and a flask of tea.

I must say overall though, I have been very lucky with work, accommodation, transport, the language etc, and have met some wonderful people (admittedly some Muppets, too) and all of these things help make it an easier transition!

No matter how tough things may seem in the heat of the moment, I always end up feeling lucky to be here!

I saw your car parked outside Little Britain bar, at the bottom of the mountain. You were on the terrace reading the Sun, eating a pie. 1 euro pint washed it down. Hungry cat looking on, but you ignored it.

When peeps keep posting how great it is to live in Tenerife I sometimes wonder if they are trying to convince themselves that they made the right decision to move in the first place.

I doubt it. There are plenty of doom and gloom threads.

P.S , this is how lucky you all are , we came back (i dont say home any more ) to Belfast start of Sept and have seen the sun 4 times , not for 4 days , 4 times . It has lashed the rest and its lashing now , so while England and Wales are baking in sunshine we have rain rain rain , now yous know i miss Tenerife so much .

I imagine that there are quite a few immigrants here who spend too much time convincing themselves that the move was the right one for them...

But I imagine that there are even more folk who see this (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150570242813584&set=a.381440418583.161652.825098583&type=3&theater) at nine AM when it's nineteen degrees, and they feel that no other convincing is deemed necessary.

i went to a canarian wedding lastnight, didn't know anyone there apart from the 2 brides, and it was wonderful everyone made me feel so welcome, the reception was held in icod alto, i could of stood there all night looking at the spectacular view across the oratava valley, and the stars seemed close enough to touch, made me feel lucky to be alive, not just lucky to be living here
