Thought I'd register and introduce myself! I've been lurking for a while now so it's about time I said hi. I'm the husband or Mrs W who recently joined the forum and had been asking a few questions.

We're moving over in June to Puerto de la Cruz and we're getting really excited about coming over. My wife will be over before me as I work overseas on the rigs.

I'm sure I'll be posting loads of questions over the coming months and it's great to see that there's a community of helpful souls here!

Anyway, hi from me and hopefully we'll have great life out there!

I am new to the forum and am moving over to Puerto de la Cruz on 2nd June. I have loads of questions, some of which I will list at the end of this thread, but first I want to introduce myself!

My husband and I have decided to make the move for the obvious and well worn reason of escaping the British weather and the drudgery of the M6 motorway on our respective commutes to work. My husband will have a regular income whilst I have given up my job as a sixth form teacher. I have booked to start an intensive Spanish course the day after arriving and am eager to settle in and make new friends on the island.

I am aware that most questions will most likely have been answered in various threads but there are so many that I thought I would ask them first before going on a hunting expedition! These are my initial questions, which hopefully you kind people may be able to help me out with:

1. Can anyone recommend a good accountant/legal advisor in or near to Puerto de la Cruz?

2. We want to eventually bring our cats over. Is Tenerife generally safe (re: poison and local animosity or otherwise towards cats) and would people recommend a particular company and/or airline to help us with their move?

3. We intend to eventually bring over a few of our belongings. These will be mainly clothes and personal items and eventually furniture if we decide we want to buy a property. Can anyone recommend a removal firm that will collect from the North of England?

4. As I have a background in teaching I have, for the past ten years, considered doing a Tefl course. Is the English teaching market already saturated or would the outlay lead to worthwhile teaching opportunities?

5. We will need a car, but not all of the time. I think we should hire at first and wonder if anyone can recommend long term car hire firms?

6. Finally, as we want to meet new people, can anyone recommend any social groups to join in the Puerto de la Cruz area? We are aware of a bar that offers salsa classes and language exchange evenings and fully intend to attend them, but want to experience as much as possible.

I think that is everything for now and any feedback or suggestions about other things people feel we should consider would be very welcome.
