Hi everyone. We are moving to Tenerife in June. I find the posts really helpful but sometimes confusing.
We are a retired couple with a good pension and a healthy bank balance, so income wont be a problem. We are initially renting for 6/12 months to test the water. I read all the advice but some say make yourself a resident straight away. Others say don't cut your ties with UK.
My husband is on medication, so we assumed that to access healthcare and medication under the EU reciprocal agreement, we would need to make ourselves residents. I am intending to apply for the SE1 in order to register with a doctor in Tenerife. Now I don't know what to do. Once I fill in the SE1 form we will no longer be entitled to UK healthcare, so will have "cut ties".
What is the right thing to do. Can we get prescription meds and register with a doctor without making ourselves residents straight away, on a temporary basis say for six months, or should we go ahead and plunge straight into the system. Advice would be welcome.

Hi Guys,
What is the perception on the canary islands of US foreign nationals and other foreigners moving in at this time? I'm sure you guys see many young people form all across the globe. Its understandable that in employment there will be a precedent set for locals over foreigners across the board from bartender to doctor....but what are the positives, or incentives for foreigners setting up shop in a Tenerife and employing locals? You know, that new neighbor that just moved in from canada and opened up that candle shop...etc...understanding times are tuff, tuff around the world. Regardless some people are sometimes lucky, adaptable, and hard working and can make it happen anywhere while adding value to their new environment. What are some of the happy endings.

Hi Everyone!!!!

I'm new to the thread, I've been hoovering for months seeking out advice and have found this site soooo helpful!!!

We are a family of 4, me, hubby and our 2 children aged 1 and 11 and are moving to Tenerife on 30th May this year, we have rented a property for 6 months to see how we get on, my husband and I are both self employed (well was in UK and want to be in Tenerife) and have an internet based business, my head is hurting with all the things I need to sort out when we get there: Any advice would be much appreciated.

Internet/Phone - Needed ASAP as we need to work to earn money

Schools for children - looking at spanish state schools (daughter is 11 and am so worried about her feeling alone and confused being in a school with people she wont be able to communicate with)

Having no car until we see if we want to stay! Any advice on 6 month car hire? Also if you have a UK driving licence can you still hire a car for 6 mths?

Spanish Tutor for us all (preferably 1-2-1 lessons for us all)

utilities - who do you go with?

Spanish bank account? do we open a resident or non resident bank account and is our HMR UK paperwork enough documentation to prove we are self employed over in UK?

Spanish mobiles - where would we purchase these?

Medical - have our European Health cards, would we have to pay to see a GP if one of the children got ill or are we covered?

So many questions I'm sorry, but I keep searching the internet and all the information is kinda making my brain fuzzy ;0)
