Thread: Size of aircraft to and from the U.K.

Re: Size of aircraft to and from the U.K.

You also have to take into account the frequency of the flights these days.

Given we now have multiple daily flights out of the likes of Gatwick and Manchester, it is simply not viable to operate Boeing 767's on the route everyday as there are not enough passengers to justify their use. Years ago larger aircraft operated the route due to the fact airlines didn't operate high frequency services and they just had a couple of flights per week.

You will notice that during the school holidays the A320's or 737's that usually operate are often replaced by larger aircraft for those airlines that have them, simple supply and demand. If there are enough passengers to justify them, larger aircraft will be scheduled.

The 757's are being seen less as they are starting to be retired by most UK airlines due to the aircrafts age, soon it'll only be Jet2 who operate them as they have an old fleet and take the 757's from the likes of Thomson when they are done with them.

Thanks for Your input Dan747. Your knowledge is apparent.

However, Landing slotscan be used by Any Plane and One Large one could carry almost Double the Narrow Bodied ones.

So, one Slot and One Pilot + first Officer instead of two of Each.
A321's and 737.900 narrow the Gap and are used in some cases.

I was surprised to see how many 757 were used by Thomson last Year, but not sure how many are left Today.
Most of Their Fleet are Leased anyway.

I know movements are every Day now, instead of a big Peak on Fridays, so perhaps this too has a bearing.
Shouls be interesting if the 787 on Order will service this Destination or Long Haul.?

Just looked. There are 20 active 757 in their Fleet of Today.
