What are the unemployment benefit rights in Tenerife?
My daughter who was born in the canaries has now left school and is looking for work.
Does anyone know if she will be entitled to Unemployment Benefit - I've been paying local taxes all her life.

Re: Unemployment Benefit rights
don't thinks so, but I'd recommend she goes and signs on as "unemployed" anyway, and ask them.

Re: Unemployment Benefit rights
No she will not be entitled to any Paro as she herself has made no contributions yet, but she should most certianly sign on as job seeking as this will give her access to training schemes and the like

Re: Unemployment Benefit rights
wont get anything...but will , as last poster mentioned, get access to courses. Youth unemployment is around 50% so its hard. Another reason to sign on is that there are incentives to get the long term unemployed back to work, i.e. no social security payments are due from employer. Making it an attractive proposition to employ someone when there is no SS to pay for a year or so.
Looking for a skipper? Crew? an Admin person, a Spanish speaker? Electronics technician? Driver? Radio Ham? Web page ? gimme a PM i'm up for anything. Cheers!

Re: What are the unemployment benefit rights in Tenerife?
She needs to work for at least 360 days (not incluiding off days and bank holidays) in order to get 4 months of paro. It's not like the basic jobseeker allowance, I'm afraid.
If she wants to be self employed, the government is also offering a discount, so she will only have to pay 50 euros per month.

Re: What are the unemployment benefit rights in Tenerife?
The whole Spanish system seems to be in disarray, regardless of the massif
downturn economically. When Zapatero was elected on a platform of reform,
I hoped that good things would happen but don't think he achieved much. I
suppose that a lot of changes require lots of cash!!

Zapatero was elected a very long time ago or did you mean Rajoy?
Zapatero and the PSOE were elected because the PP lied blatantly to the electorate three days before the elections about something so bad that the swing left was overwhelming.Catch up with all your CD Tenerife local team football or buy CD Tenerife & Spanish football items here
