Can anyone advise me on the IGIC regarding personal effects?

Hi, I'm (hopefully) bringing over personal stuff (furntiture and some clothes, all well used!) in a van. What should I expect from customs? At the moment I'm resident in Madrid and won't be changing that for some time to come. But the information on what is taxed, considered taxable or might be taxed is very confusing. Has anyone done this from the mainland? And could you please tell me what to expect.
Any help would be fantastic.

We imported our stuff in a container,from Yorkshire via Tenerife to El Hierro. The customs people in Tenerife required, details of our resident registration together with N.I.E. number, and details of our registration on the Padron. Once they received copies of these documents, the container was forwarded to us with no charges.
